Egypt (Cairo - The Great Pyramid) Sept/Oct 2008 D-23

After a good sleep last night, my plan for today is to visit the Great Pyramids in Giza. I had a hostel room mate from America joining me for this visit. I had also picked up some travel tips from the hostel reception regarding the best way to visit the Great Pyramid by Metro trains and public transport.

We took a Metro train (1EP=Rm0.70) from a station near Tallaat Harb street and the train ride took 20 mins. On arrival at Giza train station, we had to walk to an opposite road to catch a public bus to The Great Pyramids, 10km away. While walking, a local guy befriended us and boarded the same bus with us. He was extremely friendly to us. He was trying to persuade us to enter the Pyramid via the back door by paying 50EP=Rm34 for a camel ride and asked that we followed him to a spot where his contacts could provide the camel ride service. After a short walk, we became suspicious and politely told the guy that we decided not to take the advantage of his offer and we quickly walked away.

After finding our way back to the main entrance of The Great Pyramids, we paid 80EP=Rm55 for the admission fee. Inside the Pyramid area, we decided to take a camel ride and after some haggling , we paid 50EP=Rm34 each plus 15EP=Rm10 as tips for this service. We took a number of pictures on the Great Pyramids ie The Sphinx, Cheops, Chephren & Mycerinus pyramids while riding the camels. My travel buddy took a picture of me standing in front of Cheops, I looked so minute and tiny - have you spotted me, I wore a blue T-shirt !

We left the Pyramids at around 1.00pm but waited for more than an hour to catch a public bus back to the Giza train station.

"Did Napolean Bornaparte fire a shot at the nose of the Sphinx ? The Great Pyramids, what a great wonder of the world!"
