Malaysia (Post Covid-19 My Cuti Cuti Malaysia -Tanjung Malim, Behrang, Slim River, Batu Gajah & Ipoh, Perak - August 20 & 21 2023 Day 1

Small town charm, bond of Buddha & cave temples visit, unique limestone cave formation, scenic lakes & gardens, cartoon gallery, food hunting & a good night rest & sleep - my short weekend (Saturday & Sunday Aug 20 & 21 2023) getaway Cuti Cuti (Vacation) Malaysia visit together with my brother Weng & sister Mei to 5 major country towns (ie Tanjung Malim, Behrang, Slim River, Batu Gajah & Ipoh) in the state of Perak, located off the North-South Expressway on the west coast of Peninsula Malaysia. A small LIFE pleasure outdoor visit accomplished in the month of August 2023 ! 

There are a few more touristy places my group is keen to visit in Ipoh ie Tasik Cermin Ipoh, Lost World of Tambun Theme Park, Qing Sin Ling Leisure & Cultural Village, Art of Oldtown, Han Chin Pet Soo Museum etc. I look forward to another overnight visit to Ipoh & a side trip to Kapal Korek (Malayan Tin Dredge) in Batu Gajah & MyPrawn Village in Tanjung Tualang in the near future ! Total expenses incurred (2 days, group of 3, cost sharing): Rm175 (US$38) per pax

1) The start (06.30) of my 2 days Post-Covid 19 Cuti Cuti (Vacation) Malaysia from Subang Jaya (my home place), Selangor > Tanjung Malim, Perak via North-South Expressway (a car driven by my brother Weng) & accompanied by my sister Mei & myself (acting as a navigator using the GPS guide)

Behrang & Slim River, Perak

Tanjung Malim, Perak - a town located off the North-South Expressway in Mualim District, Perak, approx 70km north of Kuala Lumpur & 120km south of Ipoh, it lies on the Perak-Selangor state border, with Sungai (River) Bernam serving as the natural divider. 

My groups's 1st time visit to touristy places of Tanjung Malim, Perak 

1) Street Art, Douglas Street, Tanjung Malim, Perak - Art ! Art ! Art ! Letting my pleasant morning walk in the Art Hub of this quaint little town filled with abundance air of "Art" sense ! 


2) Art Hub, Tanjung Malim, Perak - an Instagram spot !


3) Sarang Art Hub, Jalan Rumah Rehat, Taman Bandar, Tanjung Malim, Perak - if you are a art lover, take  your time to explore the rooms & corridors of Sarang Art Club to admire the various art pieces of Malaysian artists & local talents, there are guest rooms for overnight stay & a eatery place for you to savour the local cuisine ie petai (bitter beans) fried rice etc



4) Church Of The Most Holy Redeemer, Jalan Rumah Rehat, Tanjung Malim, Perak - a Catholic church founded in 1960. 


5) Walkabout in downtown Tanjung Malim, Perak - a quiet Saturday early morning walk (08.30) for my group, mostly 1st timer ! Tanjung Malim has a KTM train station, approx 80km by train from KL Sentral, takes around 1 hour to arrive by train ! 


6) Muzium Pendidikan Nasional UPSI, Jalan Utama Upsi, Tanjung Malim, Perak - closed on Saturday & Sunday, constructed between 1919 > 1922, a national heritage building, originally established as Sultan Idris Teaching College & played as an important part in the development of education before & after Independence.   


7) Taman Tasik (Lake Garden) Embayu Proton City, Tanjung Malim, Perak - a beautiful lake in Proton City, a modern township with industrial, commercial & residential activities spread over 4,000 acres in Muallim District, Perak, it houses the Rm1.8 billion Proton car assembly plant.  



8) Natural Exotic Fish Fishing Pond, Jalan Wawasan Dagangan 2, Bandar Behrang, Perak - a large modern catch & release fishing pond located in Behrang, Perak, about 20 species of fish here providing an opportunity for anglers to experience catching fish species that would otherwise be very difficult to find in their wild habitat ! The commonly caught fish species here are Chaophraya catfish, Giant Mekong catfish & Amazon redtail catfish ! An interesting & educational outdoor visit indeed ! 


9) Kawasan Perkelahan Kampung Sungai Bil, Slim River, Perak - ideal for family picnicking over the weekend ! My 1st time visit !   


10) Hot Spring Ulu Slim, Slim River, Perak - closed at the time of our visit, maintained as a park, water in the hot spring is reported to very hot so not suitable for foot bathing, visitors may resort to boiling eggs in the pond ! 


11) A small durian feast at a roadside stall in Ulu Slim, Slim River, Perak - bought 2 bunches of local bananas (Rm4 x 2) & a local kampung durian 2kilos @Rm6 for in store tasting - quality not so good so a bit of disappointment !

13) Bidor Town, Perak - a stopover for lunch. 


14) Group's lunch in Pun Chun Restaurant, Bidor, Perak - each of us savoured a bowl of wantan char siew noodle soup @Rm12 (US$2.60) & a bought home a few packets of chicken biscuits @Rm7.00 (US$1.50) !

15) Tapah Town, Perak - after the Bidor wantan noodle lunch, our group had built up some calories to continue our drive along the main trunk road heading towards Ipoh city ..... passing by the Tapah town, just a glimpse from the car's windows ! From Tapah, you could take a shorter & quicker road (but winding & uphill) to Cameron Highlands, approx 60km away. 


16) Kampar Town, Perak - getting nearer to Ipoh city (approx 47km),  Kampar town was founded in 1887; once upon a time, a rich tin mining town ! Home to Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) Kampar Campus covering an area of 1,300 acres, 5.26 sq km), one of the largest private universities in Malaysia, my last visit to Kampar was in Sept 2020 during the Covid 19 pandemic period ! 


17) Hotel Accommodation - my group's overnight stay in Hotel Station 18, Medan Stesen 19/8, Station 18, Ipoh City, Perak; room tariff Rm90 (US$19.60, 3 single beds, spacious room), walking distance to Aeon Shopping Mall & Lotus Mall.

19) Restoran Ayam Taugeh Buntong, Jalan Guntung, Ipoh - due to a late evening visit (20.30) to this local famous bean sprout chicken rice stall, our group had no luck in savouring the Buntong chicken rice so we had to make an exit & had our dinner in a Kopitiam (Coffee Shop) nearby our hotel in Station 18. 


20) Group's dinner in Cafe Sun Shi Sheng, Medan Stesen, Station 18, Ipoh City - savored a plate of fried hor fun (flat noodle) Rm9, each a bowl kaisi hor fun @Rm7 & a plate of rojak (Rm7), loved the food here, yummy yummy taste !
