Malaysia (Post Covid 19 - My Staycation No 37 to Mangrove Point, Port Klang) August 6 2023

Sunday August 6 2023 - my post-Covid staycation No 37 to Port Klang, Selangor, focusing  my 1st time & curiosity visit (together with my brother Weng & 3 sisters) to Mangrove Point, a new ecotourism attraction in Klang Valley, Selangor after reading a press media publicity on the recent opening of this ecotourism project in Klang Valley ! 

My travel buddies: brother Weng & sisters Inn, Peng & Mei 

Travel Itinerary: Subang Jaya > Taman Equine > Port Klang Cruise Terminal > Mangrove Point > Subang Jaya > Taman Equine > Subang Jaya (approx 120km round trip) 


1) Mangrove Point, Jalan Gerudi, Kawasan 14, Port Klang, Selangor - a 28ha park located within a mangrove forest setting in Port Klang, Selangor, first of its kind in Malaysia that is designed based on a biophilic concept incorporating nature into the built environment to create restorative & connective spaces, opened to public on July 27, 2023, developed under the Selangor Maritime Gateway project by Selangor government together with the Selangor Forestry Department, free admission, washroom facilities, a new Instagram & relaxation spot in Klang valley !  



2) Walking trail, Mangrove Point - 1.6 km long boardwalk; concrete benches (approx 50m apart) for visitors to rest their feet, glamping sites & in a later stages, the building of a jetty  where visitors can take a river taxi to enjoy & admire the surrounding environment; the biggest challenge is to remove floating plastic trash from the Mangrove Point waterfront inside the park ! 


3) Mangrove Point / Forest overlooking the Klang river. 


4) Blue sky, greeneries, mangrove forest, boardwalk, relaxation, the birth of a first of its kind rejuvenation & rehabilitating the Klang river ecosystem project in Malaysia ! 


5) Port Klang Cruise Terminal (PKCT), Selangor - a side visit, a maritime tourism gateway in the largest port in Malaysia, the terminal of choice for renowned international cruise liners & naval vessels in South East Asia region, front gate not opened at the time of our visit, just took a few pictures outside of the premises, another curiosity visit but shall return one fine day !


6) Port Klang Town, Selangor 


7) Lunch with my group members in F4 Fish Head Restaurant, Subang Jaya after the Mangrove Point visit, savoured 4 Chinese tai chow dishes ie steamed fish head in ginger sauce, stir fried vegetables, braised bean curd (tofu) in pumpkin sauce & Hokkien mee + rice + 1 pot of hot Chinese tea totalled Rm119 (US$26 inclusive of service tax). 


My Good Old Swampy Thinking Days - my Sunday visit to Mangrove Point in Port Klang brought me back to my recollection of two mangrove swamp / trees related ecotourism park visits in Sitiawan, Perak (June 2022) & Tanjung Pial, Johor (Oct 2017) - both were interesting & educational ! 

1) Mangrove Swamp@Tua Pek Kong, Sitiawan - my 1st visit to Mangrove Swamp Park, located near the Tua Pek Kong Temple, Jalan Pasir Panjang, Sitiawan (June 2022), enjoyed a leisure walk on a walkway in a nature mangrove swamp environment followed by a visit to a seaside Buddhist complex (overlooking the Straits of Malacca) built in the 19th century (over 100 years old) with statutes of gods & Chinese zodiac animals, a dragon tunnel, a pagoda & a pond. 

2) Tanjung Pial (Cape of the Golden Leather Fern) National Park, Pontian District (my birthplace & hometown), Johor - established 1997 to protect this unique site, the intertidal mangroves & mudflats, located on the southernmost tip of mainland Asia or to be more precise, Eurasia, a large national park (325ha) with a 1.2km boardwalk for walking through mangrove forest & mudflats overlooking the Malacca Straits & Kerimon Island of Indonesia; an interesting educational visit in Oct 2017 (gloomy weather during the monsoon season at the time of my visit) ! 


3) Matang Mangrove Forest Reserve (MMFR) Eco Park, Kuala Sepetang, Perak - largest mangrove forest Reserve in Malaysia with an area of 40,000ha, walking trails passing through heavily wooded mangrove forests with scenic & native wildlife, visited the Park's front gate on Sept 2020 during the Covid-19 pandemic period & took a few pictures but did not do the walking trail, KIV for another visit in the near future ! 


My life's little pleasures in the month of June & July 2023 ! Connecting with friends & family relatives making the days meaningful & productive ! 

1) Saturday July 15 2023 - attended my niece's wedding day reception in USJ, Subang Jaya & a wedding dinner in Grand Imperial Restaurant @ The Club, Bukit Utama, Petaling Jaya, Selangor; congratulations on my niece's wedding & a happy & long marriage for both the newly wed (Michelle & Chin Yee).

2) Tuesday July 11 2023 (10.00 > 12.00) - meet up with my travel buddy, Thompson Tham in ICC Pudu Complex followed by a light lunch ie chee cheong fun + yong tau fu = Rm5 (US$1.10)

3) Sunday July 9 2023 - lunch with my wife & sisters Inn, Peng & Mei in Restoran Kerjia (Hakka) Zhuang, Taman Equine, Selangor  - savoured 4 Hakka style dishes ie Hakka braised pork (Rm26), Hakkan Yam Abacus (Rm24), braised tofu with salad (Rm18), fried noodle (Rm17), boulei Chinese tea (Rm2.50 x 5 = 12.50) & rice (Rm2 x 3 = Rm6) totalled Rm109.70 (US$24) inclusive of 6% service tax.

5) Sunday July 2 2022 - bought 2 kilos (Rm15 per kilo) of kampung durians (Batu Kurau) in SS15 wet market, Subang Jaya for my eating pleasure ! 

5) Thursday June 29 2023 (Hari Raya Haji) - accompanying my wife to visit Megah Rise Mall, Jalan SS24/8, Taman Megah, Petaling Jaya, Selangor - my 1st visit to this suburban shopping mall in Taman Megah, Petaling Jaya. 



6) Zhang Yong Buckets Fish Steamboat Restaurant, Megah Rise, Taman Megah, Petaling Jaya - a new steamboat restaurant making its 1st entry to Malaysia ! 


7) Pulau Tikus Market Restaurant, Megah Rise, Taman Megah, Petaling Jaya, Selangor - long queue for this food stall ! Penang food must be by popular demand & tasty !  



8) Thursday June 19 2023 (Hari Raya Haji) Lunch with my wife in Hainan Village, Restaurant, Megah Rise Mall, Taman Megah, Petaling Jaya, Selangor, savoured a plate of Nonya petai fried mihoon + Hainan vegetarian chicken rice + Hainan butter kaya toast + hot soya milk drink =  Rm35 (US$7.50 ++)
