Day 1 Thursday Oct 16 2025 (Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Doha, Qatar & Baku, Azerbaijan) - a long day as our group has to board a Qatar Airways flight from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (ETD 09.30) > Doha, Qatar (transit) > Baku, Azerbaijan (ETA19.50), badly in need for a sleep as soon as we checked into our hotel apartment at around 22.30 (Malaysian time is 02.30, time difference of 4 hours), jet lag symptom creeped into my mind at this very moment !
1) Arriving (07.00) in Kuala Lumpur International Airport 1 (KLIA1) from Kota Damansara after sharing a Grab ride (Rm72 @Rm36) with my travel buddy, K F Wong.
2) Airport check-in (our group of 4) at Qatar Airways Ticketing Counter, KLIA1, flight departing Kuala Lumpur 09.30 > Doha, Qatar (arriving 11.55) & a transit flight from Doha departing 15.55 > Heydar Aliyev International Airport Baku, Azerbaijan (arriving 19.50). Qatar airfares KL > Baku + Tbilisi > KL costs Rm2,858 (US$672).
3) Aerotrain ride from Main Terminal Building > Satellite Building, KLIA1.
4) Arriving in Satellite Building, KLIA1 & a short walk to the waiting lounge at Gate 3C.
5) Boarding Qatar Airways flight flying from KLIA > Doha, Qatar (flight time 2.5 hrs) & a transit flight to Baku, Azerbaijan.
6) Inflight meal on board the Qatar flight Kuala Lumpur > Doha.
7) Arriving (11.55) in Hamad International Airport, Doha, Qatar & a short walk to the Transfer Hall to catch a connecting Qatar Airways flight from Doha (departing 15.55) to Baku, Azerbaijan. Greeted at the Doha Airport by a huge TV screen saying Welcome to Qatar to all arrivals. Yes, I will KIV & hope that in a near future I could be greeted one more time at the Hamad International Airport to fulfil my dream of visiting major touristy places in Qatar ! I have yet to visit Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain & Saudi Arabia although I had in Jan 2018 visited United Arab Emirates (UAE) & Oman !
8) As we had almost 3 hours of transit time in Hamad International Airport, Doha, our group had some spare time & we were able to wander around this Middle East premier airport with modern state-of-art facilities featuring art, shopping, dining & a tropical garden.
9) Entering the Transfer Hall & security screening prior to boarding our connecting Qatar Airways flight (departing 15.55) from Doha, Qatar > Baku, Azerbaijan.
10) On board the Qatar Airways flight departing 15.55 from Doha > Baku, Azerbaijan (arriving 19.55)
11) Inflight meal (my choice of beef noodle) on board the Qatar Airways from Doha, Qatar > Baku, Azerbaijan
12) Arriving (19.50) in Heydar Aliyev International Airport, Baku, Azerbaijan; Heydar Aliyev airport is one of the seven international airports of Azerbaijan, it is the busiest airport both in Azerbaijan & in the South Caucasus.
13) Airport pick-up (US$30 @US$7.50 cost sharing of 4) by a pre-booked private taxi (arranged by our guest house) for our hotel check-in in Old City of Baku, Azerbaijan, a glimpse of Baku city by night from the moving taxi heading from the airport to our hotel !
14) Hotel Accommodation (4 nights): Cosy Old City Apartment, Baku, Azerbaijan, room tariff Rm100 (US$23.50) twin sharing + kitchen facilities. It was close to 22.30 when we check-in to our hotel apartment ! Azerbaijan is 4 hours behind Malaysia, so by the time we retired for bed, it was around 03.00 in the morning ! Good Night to every body & the same to Baku city in this wee hours of the night !
