Day 5 Monday Oct 20 2025 (Baku & Sheki, Azerbaijan) - after our 4 nights stay in Baku, this morning we took a Bolt taxi from Maidan Tower (nearby our guest house) to Baku International Bus Terminal for a bus journey to Sheki, a silk road mountain town near the Azerbaijan / Georgian border. Upon arrival in Sheki after the guest house check-in, our group visited the downtown Sheki & major touristy places in Sheki Fortress (UNESCO) ie Circular Albanian Temple, Palace of Sheki Khans, Winter Palace & Khan Mosque (by Bolt taxi from our guest house).
Travel itinerary: Baku > Sheki, Azerbaijan (approx. 296km, 4.5hr)
1) Hotel check-out & a short walk to Tower to e-hail a Bolt car to International Bus Terminal for our bus journey to Sheki.
2) Bus ride ($13.40 AZN = Rm35) from Baku ETD 08.30 > Sheki, Azerbaijan (approx. 296km, approx. 4.5hrs)
3) Suburban & countryside scenery from Baku > Shaki, Azerbaijan
4) A stopover for lunch & toilet break (30 minutes)
5) Arriving in Sheki town, Azerbaijan for our guest house check-in.
Sheki is a city in north western Azerbaijan, surrounded by the district of the same name, it is located in the southern part of the Greater Caucasus mountain range, 240km from Baku.
6) Hotel Accommodation (1 night); Beaming House, Sheki, Azerbaijan, room tariff Rm88 (US$21), twin sharing.
7) Walkabout in downtown Sheki, Azerbaijan - the town is small so easily walkable ! Visited a local bank to change some Georgian Lari currency for our border crossing to Georgia tomorrow morning.
8) Sheki Fortress / Castle (UNESCO), Azerbaijan - a medieval fortress located in the center of Shaki in northern Azerbaijan which served an Shaki Khan Haki Celebi's citadel, ir consists of Shaki Khan's palace, took a Bolt cab to this popular UNESCO World Heritage site after our walkabout in Sheki town.
9) Military Barracks, Sheki, Azerbaijan - constructed as a barracks for the soldiers of the Russian Imperial Army after the occupation of the Sheki Khanate in 1806, since 1980, the Sheki Museum of History & Local Lore has been located in this building.
Sheki State Art Gallery, Azerbaijan built at the end of the 19th century as a military barracks in the traditional architectural style of Sheki, it is protected by the state as an architectural monument of local importance, the Art Gallery has been operating since 1982.
10) Sheki Museum of History & Local Lore - a museum located in Sheki city, Azerbaijan, the museum is named after the Azerbaijan pedagogue, writer & ethnographer, Rashid Bey Elendiyey.
11) Circular Albanian Temple (5th & 6th century) - located in Sheki Nukha Fortress, Azerbaijan, considered a major historical & architectural monument in Azerbaijan.
12) Palace of Shaki Khans (UNESCO), Sheki, Azerbaijan - a historic monument that once served as the summer residence of the Shaki Khans, constructed in 1797 under the rule of Muhammad Husayn Khan Mushtaq, the palace is renowned for its distinctive spatial composition, richly decorated interiors & harmonious integration with the surrounding natural environment.
13) ABAD Sheki Ceramics & Applied Art Center, Sheki Fortress, Azerbaijan - a cultural hub dedicated to preserving & promoting the region's historical pottery traditions.
14) Khan Mosque (UNESCO), Sheki, Azerbaijan - a 18th century mosque located in the city of Aheki, Azerbaijan, it is part of the Historic Centre of Sheki with the Khan's Palace, a UNESCO World Heritage site & was once the main Friday mosque & madrasa for the Sheki Khans, the mosque features an impressive white minaret & is known for its historical significance.

16) Walkabout in downtown Sheki, Azerbaijan after the Sheki Fortress visit.
