Day 7 Wednesday Oct 22 2025 (Sighnaghi & Tbilisi, Georgia) - saying bye bye to my wonderful stay in Signaghi & looking forward to explore Tbilisi for our 1 night stay (followed by another 2 nights towards the end of our trip) in this capital city of Georgia ! My first time visit to Georgia ! 

Travel itinerary: Sighnaghi > Tbilisi, Georgia (approx. 110km, 2 hrs) 

1) My solo morning walk & a last glimpse of Sighnaghi & the surrounding prior to our hotel check-out ! Autumn flowers blooming, sunny & clear blue sky, cool cool mountain air, leaving this highland resort with fond memory !


2) Exiting Sighnaghi & our group took a private taxi (150 Georgian lari @37.50 lari = Rm60 cost sharing of 4) arranged by our hotel to our next destination, Tbilisi.


3) Toilet break (1 lari = Rm1.60) at a local restaurant / winery off the main trunk road towards Tbilisi. 


4) Soviet era tractor & sedan car on exhibit next to the winery - Joseph Stalin days !  


5) Arriving Tbilisi suburbs & heading towards the city centre. 


6) Accompanying my travel buddy, KF Wong to a money changer nearby our guest house to buy some Georgian currency to pay for our taxifare & hotel bill etc, indicative rate quoted US$1 = 2.69 Georgian Lari, 1 Georgian Lari = Rm1.60.  


7) Hotel Accommodation (2 nights): Guest House Imereti, Tbilisi, room tariff Rm92 (US$21.40) twin sharing


8) Walkabout in downtown Tbilisi & the surrounding after the hotel check-in. 


9) Metro train ride from Avlabari station (nearest to our guest house) > Liberty Square station using a Metro card (18 lari @ 4.5 lari = Rm7) our group purchased from the Avlabari Metro Station.   


10) Liberty Square, Tbilisi - a major tourist attraction & close to the old town of Tbilisi. 


11) Old City Wall & Old Town of Tbilisi - exploratory & familiarisation visit as towards the end of our trip, our group will be staying in a guest house in the Old Town area prior to flying off from the Tbilisi International Airport > Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (Day 22 & 23). A noble travel mission expecting to be accomplished soon !  


12) Anchiskhati Basilica of St Mary, Tbilisi, Georgia - the oldest surviving church in Tbilisi, belongs to the Georgian Orthodox Church & dates back to the 6th century. 


13) Tbilisi History Museum & Caravanserai, Georgia - built in 17th century, exhibits a collection of artifacts, a wine museum, a modern art gallery & stores selling souvenirs making it a kind of modern day caravansary, external visit only !  



14) The Bridge of Peace & Kura River, Tbilisi, Georgia - a bow-shaped pedestrian bridge, a steel & glass construction illuminated with numerous LEDs, over the Kura River, linking the Rike Park with Old Town in Central Tbilisi. 


15) Rike Park, Tbilisi, Georgia - home to Bridge of Peace, this city park offers sculptures, biking trails, cafes & children's playground. 


16) Cable car ride (@2.50 lari = Rm4) from Rike Park to Kartvlis Deda statute, Sololaki Hill, Tbilisi, Georgia - a popular touristy place in Tbilisi.  


17) Kartvlis Deda, Tbilisi, Georgia - a monument in Georgian capital, Tbilisi, the statute was erected on the top of Sololaki hill in 1958, the year Tbilisi celebrated its 1,500th anniversary, prominent sculptor Elguja Amashukeli designed the 20m aluminium figure of a woman in Georgian national dress; from the hilltop, one could have a panoramic view of Tbilisi city - spectacular sights !  


18) Bolt cab ride from Sololaki Hill > Old City, Tbilisi . 


18) Georgian food & grocery (2 grocery bills 25 lari + 38 lari = Rm100 @Rm25) our group bought from local minimarkets in Tbilisi, Georgia - loved eating their jumbo size pork smoked sausages, brown breads, chicken nuggets, lean & fat pork etc. You don't have to starve when in Georgia !
