Day 4 Sunday Oct 19 2025 (Baku, Azerbaijan) - my 4th day & final night stay in Baku, Azerbaijan before moving on to another Caucasus country called Georgia & the first city of visit is Sheki, a Silk Road mountain town near the Azerbaijan / Georgian border, a busy day for me & my group making our day & night productive by visiting or re-visiting major touristy places in & around Baku city & the old city ie Nizami Street, Fountain Square, Nizami Museum of Azerbaijan Literature, Palace of Shirvanshahs & Maiden Tower, (UNESCO), Heydar Aliyer Center etc
1) Early morning walkabout in Nazami Street, Baku & the surrounding, a bustling pedestrian & shopping avenue known as "Targoviy Street" that is popular with locals & tourists, it features a wide variety of shops including international brands & boutiques, restaurants, cafes & street vendors & is also a centre for nightlife, the architecture is a mix of styles from the late 19th century to modern & the street is considered one of the most central & vibrant parts of the city.
2) Fountain Square, Baku, Azerbaijan - a public square in downtown Baku, previously called Parapat, the names of the fountains in the square derives from the presence of dozens of fountains throughout the square first constructed during the Soviet rule of Azerbaijan !
3) Nizami Museum of Azerbaijan Literature, Baku, Azerbaijan - a museum of Azeri literature & culture featuring a vast collection of rare books & manuscripts, external visit only.
4) Palace of Shirvanshahs (UNESCO), Baku, Azerbaijan - a restored 15th century palace complex (one of the pearls of Azerbaijan's architecture) with a mosque, burial vaults & artifacts & relic displays, admission 15AZN = Rm39), external visit only.
5) Muhammed Mosque or Simggala (name of its minaret) Mosque located in Old City, Baku - built in the 11th century
5) The Maidan Tower (UNESCO), Baku, Azerbaijan - a 12th century monument in the Old City of Batu, along with Shirvanshah's Palace dated to the 15th century, it forms a group of historic monuments under the UNESCO World Heritage sites, it is one of Azerbaijan's most distinctive national emblems & is featured on Azerbaijani currency notes & official letterheads, external visit only.
7) Metro train ride (using a Bakukart, $0.60AZN = Rm1.60 per ride) from Icherisheher Metro station > Heydar Aliyer Center Metro station, Baku, Azerbaijan
8) A short walk from the Metro station > Heydar Aliyer Center, Baku, Azerbaijan
9) Heydar Aliyer Center, Baku, Azerbaijan - a 57,500 sq meter building complex in Baku, designed by Zaha Hadid & noted for its distinctive & flowing, curved style that eschews sharp angles, the new national cultural centre of Azerbaijan, housing a museum, auditorium / opera house & related cultural activities, really impressed with this unique building ! Admission fee $15AZN (Rm39 = US$9), external visit only.
10) Our group's light lunch (chicken doner kebab, @ $2.50AZN = Rm6.50 = US$1.50) at a food stall near the main road after the Heydar Aliyer Centre visit.
11) Metro train ride (0.60AZN = Rm1.60) from Stansivasi (28 May) Metro station to International Bus Terminal Metro Station
12) International Bus Terminal, Baku, Azerbaijan - familiarisation visit as tomorrow morning (08.30), we will be boarding a long distance bus from this terminal to Sheki, Azerbaijan
13) Metro train ride ($0.60AZN) from Baku International Bus Terminal Metro station > Icherisheher Metro station followed by a short walk to our guest house.
14) Fountain Square by Night, Baku, Azerbaijan
15) Nizami Street by Night, Azerbaijan - my final night in Baku, Azerbaijan hence roaming this lively pedestrian street known for its illuminated architecture, upscale shopping & vibrant atmosphere & various restaurants, cafes & shops that stay open late !
