Day 14 Wednesday Oct 29 2025 (Zugdidi & Batumi, Georgia) - left Zugdidi after an early morning hotel check-out & our next destination is Batumi, a Black Sea & port city in Georgia. Raining all day long so not a very pleasant drive for this leg of travel & upon our arrival in Batumi too ! Despite the odds,  our group visit in late afternoon & my solo evening walk, together we managed to see a number of touristy places in Batumi, Georgia thus concluded our 1 night stay in Batumi (ideally we should stay for a minimum of 2 nights in this beautiful port city of Batumi !) !

Travel itinerary: Zugdidi > Batumi, Georgia (approx. 125km)

1) Batumi Central Railway Station, Georgia - a modern 2 storey railway station with a bus terminal, shopping centre & taxi stand, located approx 4 km from the city centre. There are regular train services from Batumi to Tbilisi & takes about 5 hours & also a service to Kutaisi.

2) Petrol top up for our rental car at a petrol kiosk in suburban Batumi, Georgia

3) Bad weather today as it was raining cats & dogs from day to night so making our sightseeing visits in Batumi messy & difficult, all our shoes & pullovers were wet & bad traffic too as soon as our car entered the city centre for our hotel check-in !

4) Arriving in Batumi, Georgia - Batumi is a Black Sea resort & port city, is the capital of the Georgian Republic of Adjara. Batumi Boulevard encompasses a waterfront promenade with a park & beach, the 130m high Alphabetic Tower adorned with Georgian script has a separate observation deck. The old town district is lined with renovated 19th century buildings. North of the city is Batumi Botanical Garden showcases flora from around the world. Public parking in city centre is horrendous due to limited public parking space & narrow streets, fortunately our guest house has a courtyard but driving a big sedan car into the courtyard is a major challenge as the inner lane is very narrow & the driver needs considerable skill to drive the car inside !

5) Batumi Mall - a 4 storey shopping mall located in the heart of the city centre. A brief visit & a toilet run !

6) Hotel Accommodation (1 night): studio apartment in city centre with a small courtyard for guest parking, room tariff Rm98 (US$23), 2 single beds.

7) My solo exploratory visit in downtown Batumi after the rain has stopped for awhile !

8) Europe Square, Batumi, Georgia - a charming square in the heart of Batumi, built in the late 19th century during the Ottoman Empire & later renovated during the Soviet era, today it boasts beautiful neo-classical buildings, fountains, a Medea statute & surrounded by hotels, restaurants & cafes.

9) Statute of Medea, Europe Square, Batumi - a monumen6tal sculpture located at Europe Square, Batumi, it depicts the mythological figure Medea, a princess of ancient Colchis holding the Golden Fleece.

10) State Art Museum of  Adjara, Batumi, Georgia - showcasing permanent & rotating art & sculptures from a range of eras.

11) Our group's walkabout from our apartment to Batumi Boulevard & Waterfront area amid a light drizzle & later on a heavy downpour & our group took refuge in a nearby Hilton hotel for a short rest !

12) Batumi Boulevard - Seaside Amusement Park is located in Batumi, Adjara Region & the historic part of the city; along the seaside, its length is 7km, Seaside Boulevard is one of the most important sights of Batumi, since 1987, Boulevard has been a national monument of Georgian garden-park art & it is also a recreational area, there are many bungalows, cafes, restaurants, shops, children's attractions & different colorful & dancing fountains in the Boulevard, also there are interesting sculptures, architectural monuments in the Boulevard full of unique plants.

13) The Black Sea, Batumi, Georgia - The Black Sea is a marginal Mediterranean Sea lying between Europe & Asia, east of the Balkans, south of the East European Plain, west of the Caucasus & north of Anatolia. It is bounded by Bulgaria, Georgia, Romania, Russia, Türkiye & Ukraine.

14) Sheraton Hotel next to Hilton Hotel, Batumi, Georgia

15) The Octopus (Cafe), Batumi, Georgia - built in 1975 with colored stones & enamel, featuring star, dolphins, & sea horses, a cultural heritage monument located on the Boulevard by the Black Sea, near Hilton Hitel.

16) Hilton Hotel, Batumi, Georgia - a 5 star hotel near the Boulevard & Waterfront area

17) Batumi Piazza Square, Georgia an Italian style open public area in the city of Batumi, various significant buildings surround the piazza which has open air cafes, hotels & shopping, the Piazza is one of the most visited & popular sights of the Batumi, located in the Seaside Zone about 4 blocks from the Black Sea. I was wet to skin when I made this solo evening visit to this popular square - my shoes & socks were wet, my pullovers wet & my jean too !

18) Europe Square by Night, Batumi - a brief stopover after the Piazza Square visit, spectacular sight but due to the wet weather, the Square was rather deserted !

19) Casino Iverdia by Night, Batumi Georgia
