Europe (Rimini & Ancona, Italy) May 2014

Total expenses incurred : E$128.20
Hostel: Sun Flower City Backpacker (1 night) - Euro$12.00 (dorm bed)
Food & groceries: E$6.00
Trains : Florence > Bologna - E$24 + Bologna > Rimini - E$9.50 + Rimini > Ancona - E$6.70 = E$40.20Ferry : Ancona > Split - E$50.00 (foot passenger ticket without seat reservation)
Bus: Split > Dubrovnik - E$20.00

From Nice , I took an Eurolines bus departing at very odd hour in the morning ie 03.45am to Florence, Italy so I had to squat at the Nice Airport Terminal 1 from 20.00 until the wee hours of the morning. The public bus services in Nice end at around 20.30 so I managed to catch a night bus (E$1.50) before the last bus service. Otherwise, you have to pay a taxi fare of E$35 for a 5 km drive from Nice city center to the Eurolines International bus stop at de Lindbergh which is a 10 minutes walk from the Nice Airport Terminal. So please do a bit of homework if you are using Eurolines buses in Nice leaving for Milan, Florence or Rome, Italy.
Upon my arrival in Florence, I took a train (E$24) to Bologna and another connecting train (E$9.50) to Rimini. I used Rimini as a stopover for my visit to San Marino and the Balkan states in Eastern Europe.

After the hostel check in, I did a 1/2 day trip to Monaco. Public transport from Rimini to Monaco is easy & efficient.

Rimini is located on the Adriatic Sea and has a population of over 100,000 people. The town & waterfront area are rather quiet & laid back so an ideal place for tourists to have a short holiday here.

Rimini is an hour by train (E$6.70) to Ancona. The port of Ancona has regular ferry services to Split & Dubrovnik.
