In Aug 2013, I bought an online air ticket (RM2,343=E$522) from Qatar Airways and picked Paris as the starting point for my 5th visit to Europe. In Paris, I stayed near Jules Joffrin Metro station, two Metro stops from Gare du Nord. Upon arrival in Paris, I took a train to Eurolines office in Gallieni and purchased a Eurolines 30 Day Pass (E$340) for my bus rides to various countries in Europe. As there was a bus leaving Paris in the early afternoon to Barcelona on my first day of arrival, I took the offer and landed myself in Barcelona on the following morning.
This was my 3rd visit to Paris. My two night stay in Paris was towards the end of my Europe visit so I just relaxed my time in Paris and loitered around the Montmartre area. Montrmartre's most famous landmark is the Basilique du Sacre Coeur. From this spectacular white dome church, you could have a panoramic view of the Paris city.
Paris was drizzling most of the time so if you are travelling to Paris in April / May, bring a small umbrella or raincoat along. It never pours but rain drops keep falling on my head ! The day weather was around 16'c-20'c in Paris at this time of the year.

Wow! Just wow! I'm super-impressed! Just the type of thing I would like to do too, after retirement. Unfortunately, I am female. Not that being female is a disability BUT it does make things difficult, from the safety point of view. Thanks a million for sharing your experiences!
ReplyDeleteMarita, 50% of the backpackers or travellers I met in hostels or on the roads were young females - so put that fear away and your return on investment in travelling will be a delicious one after retirement !
