D10 Tuesday April 21 2026 (Nanshan & Longkou Shandong) Part 2 - this post focussed on my visit to Nanshan Pharmacist Jade Buddha Hall, a major attraction in Nanshan Tourist Area featuring the world's largest indoor Jade Buddha of the Medicine Buddha (Bhaisajvaguru).
1) Nanshan Pharmacist Buddha, Jade Buddha Hall, Nanshan Tourist Area, Longkou - front entrance, as part of the Nanshan Buddhist Culture Tourism Zone, it attracts pilgrims seeking blessings for health & well being, the temple complex (impressive & magnificent looking) is designed in the traditional, grand, & orderly style of the Tang Dynasty, the higher floor could be easily reached via escalators.
2) Nanshan Pharmacist Jade Buddha Statute -the world largest indoor Jade Buddha (1,366m high weighing approx 660 tons, carved from a whole piece of Burmese white jade, the stone also enshrines the 8 Flying Fairies & the 12 Gods) of the Medicine Buddha (Bhaisajvaguru), housed in a medical hall built in Tang dynasty style surrounded by scenic mountains & close to the Bohai Sea, creating a serene pilgrimage & cultural site; the Jade Buddha hall is divided into 3 floors ie the Relic Hall, the Tancheng Hall & the Big Buddha Hall.
3) Jade Guan Yin, Louhans / Arahats & other Deities statutes on exibits in Nanshan Pharmacist Buddha Temple Complex
4) Relics of Buddhism items on exhibits
5) 500 Luohan / Arahats - rows of 500 Luohans greeting visitors along the excavators !
6) Scenic views of Nanshan mountain from the upper section of the Nanshan Pharmacist Jade Buddha Temple.
7) Buggy ride from Nanshan Pharmacist Jade Buddha Temple to front entrance
8) Nanshan Zen Temple
9) Nanshan Fushou Palace Culture & Art Museum - external visit & the surrounding, a short walk to the front entrance.
10) Exiting the Nanshan Tourist Area (17.30) & e-hailed a Didi back to our hotel
11) My dinner - claypot chicken + white rice (CNY20) in a local eatery shop in Longkou, Shandong
