My 16 days Free & Easy Visit to Shandong, China (Qingdao, Weihai, Yentai, Fenglai, Nanshan, Weifang,Taishan & Jinan) April 12 > 27 2026 - D9 Penglai & Longkou

D9 Monday April 20 2026 (Penglai, Shandong) - took a high speed morning train from Yantai (departing 08.42 > Penglai (arriving 09.25 CNY34) for a visit to Penglai Pavilion Tourist Area, temporary stored our luggage (for a fee) at the Penglai Railway station & picked them up after the visit to take a connecting train from Penglai Railway Station (departing 16.28) > Longkou (arriving 16.40, CNY17) of our 2 nights stay.  

Yantai > Penglai (92km) 
Penglai > Longkou (46km)


1) Hotel buffet breakfast in Lijing Coast Hotel, Yantai prior to our train ride to Penglai.  


2) High speed train ride (CNY34) from Yantai (departing 08.42) > Penglai 


3) Arriving in Penglai Railway Station - left our luggage in Railway Luggage Room (CNY20) for large luggage temporary storage, took a private taxi from the railway station to Penglai Pavilion 


4) Fenglai Pavilion Scenic Area - took a private taxi ride from Penglai Railway station to Penglai Pavilion (a national 5A tourist attraction), free admission for seniors above 70s, buggy ride CNY10 for seniors. 

Penglai Pavilion or Penglai Pagoda is a famous tower in Penglai, Yantai, Shandong, it is note as one of the 4 Great Towers of China, located on Danya Mountain, the natural site is surrounded by Yellow Sea & Bohai Sea, it was built in the sixth year of the Jiayou reign of the Northern Song Dynasty (1061), over 960 years ago, renowned as a "Fairyland on Earth", Penglai Pavilion is a sacred Taoist site & a famous place to view mirages, it is also the legendary origin of the "Eight Immortals Crossing the Sea" tale !

7) Qi Jiguang's Memorial Hall, Penglai Pavilion - in honour of a Military General & Writer of  the Ming Dynasty, best known for leading the defence on the coastal regions against "wokou" pirate activities.

9) Penglai Water City or Beiwo City - first built during the Qingli period of the Northern Song Dynasty, one of the most complete existing ancient naval bases (270,000 sq meters) in  China, composed of the water city wall (7 meters high), water gate, wharf, fort etc, an important military fortress, Qi Jiquang, a famous anti-Japanese General in the Ming Dynasty to drill the navy & resist Japanese pirates, today the remaining  ancient forts, naval offices & other relics in the water city can still make people feel the strict momentum of coastal defence in the olden days. 


10) Qing Dynasty Canon (120kg), Penglai Pavilion Scenic Area - built in 1841 (the 1st Opium War), this cannon was unearthed in 1982 in the city of Dengzhou.

15) Penglai Tower or Pagoda, Penglai Tourist Area - a famous tower in Penglai, Shandong, noted one of the 4 Great Towers of China. 


16) Reclining Stone Tablet Hall, Penglai Pavilion Scenic Area - stone tablets dating back to the Qing Dynasty, some words written by famous poet of China ie Su Dongpo, there is a couplet written by Gong Baochen in the Qing Dyansty.


17) Puzhao Tower, Penglai Pavilion Scenic Area - built in 1886 during the Qing Dynasty & rebuilt in 1958


18) Principal Hall of the Sea Goddess Temple, Penglai Tourist Area - built in 1836 during the Northern Song Dynasty. 



19) The Tang Pagoda Tree - one thousand years old ! 


20) Exiting Penglai Tourist Area & a short walk to the Laobeishan Cable Car Station


21) Cable car ride (CNY30 for seniors) from Penglai Pavilion to Laobeishan


22) The Plank Road, Laobeishan - a 10 minutes walk to the Boundary Landmark of Yellow Sea & Bohai Sea

24) Return cable car ride from Laobeishan > Penglasi Pavilion Scenic Area


25) Exiting the Penglai Scenic Area & took a buggy ride back to the front entance


26) Didi car ride from Penglai Pavilion > Penglai Railway station - collected our luggage from the Penglai Railway station luggage room followed by a high speed train ride to Longkou for our overnight stay. 


27) Arriving in Longkousi Railway Station 


28) Hotel Accommodation (Longkou) - my 2 nights stay in Vienna Hotel, Longkou, room tariff Rm133 = US$33 twin sharing + breakfast 


29) Small Eat (Dinner) in a local restaurant in Longkou town - savoured a plate of pork rib rice (CNY17 = Rm10.20 = US$2.50) 


30) Walkabout in Longkou downtown area after the dinner before returning to hotel. 


31) Vienna Hotel, Longkou, Shandong - time to say Good Night after a fruitful visit to Penglai Pavilion, the highlight of our today's visit !
