D6 Good Friday April 17 2026 (Weihai, Shandong) - an exciting day for my group, with prudent time management, we managed to visit 4 major touristy places in Weihai, ie a ferry ride to Liugongdao Scenic Area & return, Xingfumen Square, Wave to Wonderland Mall & Wego Plaza Pedestrian Street. A wonderful outcome indeed !
1) Liugongdao Ferry Customer Service Center , Weihai, Shandong - took a Didi from our hotel to the Liugongdao Ferry Customer Service Centre, the centre was packed with visitors (mainly tour groups) & day trippers queuing at the centre to board a ferry from the jetty to Liugongdao !
2) Boarding a ferry (departing 09.15, CNY31 = Rm18.60) from the Liugongdao Ferry / Customer Service Centre, Weihai > Liugongdao (3.5km, 20 mins ferry ride)
3) Arriving in Liugongdao Scenuc Area & some photos taking in front of the Liugongdao main complex.
Liugongdao is a small island (a national 5A tourist attraction) located on the north-eastern edge of the Shandong Peninsula at the mouth of Weihai Bay, it is known as the "birth place of China's first modern navy" & is also the site of its defeat in the First Sino-Japanese War.
4) Museum of the Sino-Japanese War (1894-1895), Liugongdao Scenic Area, Weihai, Shandong - Liugong Island marks a China's tragic military defeat in 1894, Japan invaded China in what was known as the Jiawu War made famous by a naval engagement, the museum theme focuses on the Beiyang Navy & Sino-Japanese War of 1894, it features artifacts from the Jiawu War such as the HQ interiors of the Beiyang Navy, Memorial Hall of Beiyang Soldiers, marine & three gun emplacements, a Sino-Japanese Sea Battle Demonstration Museum is there to illustrate a development history of the Beiyang Navy.
5) Walkabout in Liugongdao Scenic Area, Weihai, Shandong
6) Palace of the Divine Whale, Liugongdao Expo Park, Weihai, Shandong - exhibit of a 1,000 year old whale skeleton !
7) Measurement Standard, Liugongdao Expo Park, Weihai, Shandong - normally installed near the coastal area to measure the speed of a ship.
8) Memorial Ship of "Dingyuan", Liugong Island, Weihai, Shandong - constructed on March 1881, Dingyuan was an ironclad battleship & the flagship of the Chinese Beiyang Fleet, she was the lead ship of the Dingyuan class, which included one other vessel, Zhenyuan, both of which were built in Germany in the early 1880s, delivery of the two ironclads was delay by the Sino-French War of 1884 - 1885, the ship on exhibit here is a replica !
9) Pork noodle soup (CNY20 = Rm12) lunch in a local restaurant in Liugongdao, Weihai
10) Naval Office, Liugongdao Expo Park, Weihai, Shandong - completed in 1891, the HQ of the Qing Dynasty's Beiyang Fleet, China's first modern navy establshed in the late 19th century, located on the east side of the Liugong island within Weihai Bay, the historic site is now a major part of the Liugong Island Scenic Area dedicated to the Sino-Japanese War of 1894 - 1895.
11) Gun Carriage of Disappearing Mount & cannon on Ri Island Fort, Liugongdao, Weihai

12) Xi Chun (West Village) Old Residence Site, Liugongdao Scenic Area, Weihai
13) Residence of Ding Ruchang, Liugongdao Scenic Area - built in 1888 covering an area of 14,000sq meters, spacious courtyard & gardens, Ding was a Chinese Admiral of the Qing Dynasty, Ding took part in the First Sino-Japanese War, he lost 5 of the 10 ships in his fleet during the Battle of the Yalu River.
14) Liugongdao Art Museum, Liugongdao Scenic Area, Weihai
15) Iron Wharf, Liugingdao Jiawu War Memorial Site, Liugongdao Scenic Area, Weihai.
16) Steaming Room Old Site, Liugongdao Scenic Area, Weihai

19) Xingfumen Square - Haiyue Scenic Area & Happiness Park, Weihai, Shandong - a natural landscape tourist destination, Haiyue Scenic Area is close to Xingfumen, with a beautiful coastline & clean beaches, an ideal palce for tourists to enjoy the seaside scenery, I hope all of us have the "Fu or Wellbeing" after this Xingfumen visit !
20) Wave to Wonderland, Weihai, Shandong - a major commercial & travel complex, featuring an ocean park on ots B1 level, located in a revitalized century old port area, it serves as a modern hub for dining, shopping & entertainment, including a lush sports field & is located along the coast offering stunning sea views.
21) Wego Plaza Pedestrian Street, Weihai, Shandong - window shopping in the late afternoon.
22) Claypot braised pork ribs + white rice + vegetable (CNY36 = Rm21.60) dinner in a local restaurant nearby our hotel in Weihai, Shandong
23) Evening stroll along the Big White Sail Plaza / Square & beach front within walking distance from our hotel in Weihai, Shandong
