D3 Tuesday April 14 2026 (Qingdao, Shandong) - my 3rd day in Qingdao, took a Metro from Gaoxiong Lu, approx 500m from our hotel to Dahedong Metro station to visit the Laoshan Scenic Area approx 22km from downtown Qingdao, spent a whole day to explore the various scenic spots in Laoshan including the Taiqing Gong (Palace), Laozi Statute & Huayan Temple. My last solo visit to Laoshan was in Aug 2015 !
1) Breakfast with my group in a small eat stall in a local community residential area, approx 300m from our hotel, savoured a bowl of wantan soup & a plate of noodle (CNY27 = Rm16/20, twin sharing)
2) Metro train ride from our nearest Metro station to Dahedong Metro station & Exit B to the Laoshan Dahedong Tourist Service Center - so pretty straight forward, no need Didi or joining any day tour package to this popular touristy place in Qingdao, you manage your own time !
3) Arriving in Dahedong Metro station, Qingdao, Shandong
4) Laoshan Tourist Service Centre, Qingdao, Shandong - opposite the Dahedong Metro Station, free admission for seniors above 60s, shuttle bus CNY20 (return) per pax.
5) Shuttle bus ride (CNY20 round trip) from Laoshan Customer Service Centre to Baishuihe River Square (1st Stop).
6) Scenic coastline along the Laoshan Scenic Area, Qingdao, Shandong - sit tight with seat belt on & enjoy the scenery from the moving bus's windows !
7) Arriving in Baishuhe River Square (1st bus stopover), Laoshan Scenic Area, Qingdao, Shandong - one group photo taken for remembrance !
9) Shuttle bus ride from Baishuihe Square > Taiqing Square (2nd stopover), Laoshan Scenic Area, Qingdao, Shandong.
10) Taiqing Scenic Spot, Laoshan Scenic Area, Qingdao, Shandong - the main attraction is the Taiqing Palace, covering an area of 30,000 sq meters, the main body of the temple is divided into 3 parts ie Sanguan Hall, Sanqing Hall & Sanhuang Hall, Taiqing Palace was first built in 140BC has a history of ovwer 2,000 years old & has been repaired in alomst every dynasty, the present architecture still retains the Song Dynasty style which is very rare in domestic religious buildings hence Taiqing Scenic Spot (surrounded by 7 peaks in 3 sides) is the representative site of Taoist culture.
11) Laoshan Taoism building group of complex - Taiqing Palace, Loashan Scenic Area, Qingdao, Shandong
12) Longtou Elm - a 18 meter tall tree, aged 1,200 years, the tree trunk branches are curly like a dragon head, the tree was planted by Li Zhahuan, a Taoist Puji Immortal at the end of the Tang Dynasty !
13) Green Stone Tortoise, Laoshan Scenic Area, Qingdao, Shandong - this rare green stone is only found in deep ocean sea floor, the tortoise figure symbolises longevity & visitors seeking blessings of a long life are welcome to touch it !
14) Zhuangzi Statute, Laoshan Scenic Area, Qingdao, Shandong
15) Laozu Statute, Laoshan Scenic Area, Shandong - a prominent bronze sculpture located near the Taiqing Palace, completed in 2016, this 36 meter high, 50 meter total height statute honors the founder of Taoism & is a major landmark within the scenic coastal & cultural rich Taiqing Area.
16) Oriental Arborvitae - a cypress family tree with a tree age of more than 700 years, it is a unique tree species mostly planted in Laoshan Temple.

18) Shuttle bus ride from Taiqing Scenic Area > Huayan Scenic Spot
19) Noodle soup & jelly dessert (CNY24 = Rm14.40) lunch in a local restaurant, Laoshan Scenic Area, Qingdao, Shandong.
20) Huayan Scenic Spotm (3rd Stopover), Laoshan, Shandong - it is the only Buddhist tourist area in Laoshan, main attractions here include Huayan Temple, Narayana Grottoes, Statute of Faxian. Huayan Temple is surrounded by mountains on 3 sides & the sea on the east, the temple is also the originating place of Mantis School of Chinese Kung Fu.
21) Shuttle bus ride (return journey) from Huayan Scenic Spot > Dahezdong Customer Service Centre, Laoshan, Qingdao, Shandong
22) Mixed chicken & vegetable rice dinner (CNY14 = Rm8.40) in a local Community Residential Food Court, nearby our hotel, Qingdao, Shandong
