Day 5 Monday May 26 2025 (Medan & Lake Toba, Sumatra) - an exciting day for my Lake Toba visit, the largest volcanic lake in the world, began our day by taking a bus ride (4.5 hours) from Medan to Parapat followed by a ferry ride (45 minutes) from Tiga Raja jetty (Parapat) > Samosir Island for an overnight stay - my 1st time visit to this wonderful, scenic Lake Toba !

1) Minivan Mr X ride (IDR@IDR5k = Rm1.35) nearby our hotel to Terminal Amplas to pre-book our bus tickets for our Medan > Lake Toba visit tomorrow morning inquire about our overnight bus ride from Medan > Dumai.
2) Terminal Amplas, Medan Sumatra - a modern transportation hub providing inter-city (including Lake Toba) & long distance bus services to various regions of Sumatra & Java.
3) Bus ride @IDR70k (Rm18.90 = US$4.30) from Terminal Amplas > Tiga Raja jetty, Parapat (08.00 > 12.30, 216km, approx 4.5 hours)
4) Suburban & countryside scenery as viewed from the moving bus (Medan > Parapat / Lake Toba), bus journey takes 4 - 5 hours via main trunk roads & expressway, passing the city of Pematang Siantar.
5) Bus approaching Parapat, a small town & port in North Sumatra on the edge of Lake Toba on the Uluan Peninsula where it forms the closest point to Samosir Island, it is the primary transit point by ferry for visitors going across the lake to Samosir Island.

7) Tiga Raja Jetty - ferry crossing from Parapat > Samosir Island / Lake Toba (approx 30 to 45 minutes), visitor registration with the local government authority at the jetty prior to boarding the ferry.
8) Bought bananas (IDR20k), mangoes (IDR35k) & dried anchovies (IDR20k) from a nearby wet market prior to boarding the ferry.
9) On board the ferry @IDR25k = Rm6.75 bounds for Lake Toba (travelling time approx 40 minutes), scenic lakeside & coastline, a very pleasant & leisure sea journey ! Lake Toba is the largest volcanic lake in the world, formed by a volcanic eruption 75,000 years ago, covering 1,145 sq km & a depth of 450m !
10) Ferry arriving in Vaduz's View Guest House jetty, Tuk Tuk, Samosir Island.
11) Hotel Accommodation (Lake Toba): my overnight stay in Vaduz's View Guesthouse, room tariff @Rm76 (US$17.30) twin sharing.
12) Bike hire in Lake Toba via our hotel (14.00 > 12 midnight) IDR100k (Rm27 = US$6.10, inclusive of petrol), a 5 hour round the island bike tour to see the best of Lake Toba !
13) Huta Siallagan, Samosir Island - an ancient Batak village in Samosir Island, famous for its story as a village of cannibals, a must visit when in Lake Toba, entrance fee @IDR10k (Rm2.70)
14) Round the Lake Toba / Samosir Island by bike - enjoying every moment of my time in Lake Toba, the largest volcanic lake in the world !
