Day 15 - Thursday June 5 2025 (Padang, Sumatra) - my 3rd day in Padang, Sumatra & as we had done a bike tour (self drive by my travel buddy) of major tourist sites in Padang on the preceding day, so we took it easy (resting in hotel watching YouTube or leisure walk nearby our hotel) today & focused our visits in Padang Chinatown (morning breakfast), my solo visit to view the interiors of the Al-Hakim mosque & seafront area (late afternoon). There was a heavy downpour in the late afternoon & I was nearly frenched to skin but I was fortunate to return to my hotel minutes before the heavy rainfall !

1) A morning scene in Padang Chinatown & if you love Indonesian Chinese style food, just show up here ! No doubt, this place had become our familiar territory which is also near the Kota Tua Padang (Old Town).

2) My favourite eatery / coffee shop in Padang Chinatown; for the morning breakfast, each of us savoured a bowl of chicken porridge (very tasty & delicious), green bean dessert soup, salted eggs (not that salty but unique in taste)  & a hot black coffee !  Spent an hour of our time chatting with the lady owner & her daughter (Mui), both were ethnic Chinese born here (first & second generation), Mui's daughter is planning a visit to Kuala Lumpur, Ipoh & Genting Highlands this month so both of us provided some useful travel tips re hotel accommodation & public transport options etc. Prior to leaving, each of us taobao (takeaway) a pack of fried kwey teow / mihoon, green bean dessert soup & salted egg to be eaten as our lunch in the comfort of our hotel (total food bill inclusive of takeaway IDR122k = Rm33 for 2) !

3) One for the album, a memorable morning, good food, good company & a jolly good time in Padang Chinatown !

4) Bought a fresh papaya from this stall (IDR9k = Rm2.43) as our light snack of the day !

5) Passing by a ikan bakar (BBQ fish) stall operating near our hotel ! Smell good !!!

6) A brief visit to Vihara Buddha Warman (Buddhist Temple), Padang, located approx 200m from our hotel.

7) Enjoying freshly cut papaya in our hotel, sweet & tasty !

8) Yayasan Tri Ratna Padang (Sekolah Naitonal Plus) - a national school located next to the Buddhist Temple.

9) My solo visit to the seafront & on the edge of Padang Beach, opposite the AI-Hakim Mosque, facing the Indian Ocean; rough sea, scenic coastline & windy !

10) A brief internal visit of the AL-Hakim Mosque - a Taj Mahal style mosque !

11) Gloomy weather in the late afternoon as I strolled along the coastline area prior to a heavy downpour ! I made a quick exit of the place & was back to my hotel minutes before the rainfall !

12) Nella Cake, Oleh Oleh Khas Padang - a popular cake & snack shop in Padang nearby Yani Homestay - high customer patronage at any time of the day & night !

13) My takeaway fried kwey teow / mihoon + salted egg eaten as a late lunch in my hotel room !

14) My simple dinner - Mieso Bakso mihoon soup @IDR18k (RM4.90) in Warung Bakso Mas Min located 400m from Yani Homestay,

15) AL-Hakim mosque & seafront by night

Day 16 (Final) - Friday June 6 2025 (Padang, Sumatra & Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia) - my last day in Padang, after an early breakfast in Padang Chinatown & hotel check-out, both of us hailed a Grab to Minangkabau International Airport & boarded an Air Asia flight back to Kuala Lumpur thus ending my 16 days free & easy visit to Sumatra - a great outcome for two first timers ! Welcome back, KM echoing this favourite song of mine "Country road takes me home to the place I belong !"

1) Two handsome looking cow spotted by the roadside not far from my hotel !

2) Morning walk from Yani Homestay > Padang Chinatown.

3) My morning breakfast in Koban stall in Padang Chinatown, each of us savoured a plate of fried mihoon with egg & a bowl of green dessert soup (total food bill IDR66 = Rm18 for 2)

4) My travel buddy bought a few pieces of deep fried banana fritters from a food stall in Padang Chinatown.

4) Hailed a Grab (IDR124 = Rm33) from Yani Homestay > Minangkabau International Airport, Padang (approx 30 minutes)

5) Flight & luggage check-in at Air Asia service counter, issuance of boarding pass, security & immigration clearance etc

6) On board the Air Asia flight departing Padang, Indonesia at 11.35 arriving KLIA2 at 13.15 (arriving 15 minutes earlier, travelling time 1 hr 15 mins).

7) Arriving in Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2, immigration clearance, luggage collection & security screening etc

8) Welcome Home, KM & congratulation for initiating this 16 days free & easy Indonesian visit (my 4th visit) & I believe both my travel buddy & myself had accomplished quite a fair bit in terms of sightseeing & enjoying the local food for our 1st time visit to Sumatra, Indonesia.  For the foreign visitors arriving in KLIA Airport, Selamat Datang  (A Warm Welcome) to Malaysia !

9) Airport shuttle bus ride with my travel buddy from Level 1, KLIA2 > KL Sentral departing 14.25 (traveling time approx 1 hr, 58km), bus ticket for senior citizens RM11 (US$2.50); from here, there are long distance bus services to various cities / towns in Peninsula Malaysia, so making travelling easier for those who are keen to venture out in other touristy & suburban towns of Malaysia !

10) Boarding a Rapid KL LRT train ride from KL Sentral > SS15, Subang Jaya, departing 15.50 & arriving Home Sweet Home at around 16.45 ! Needless to say, as a senior citizen I may need a few days rest to recover my energy & in the meantime, pondering what's my next travelling destination ?
