Vietnam (Hanoi) May 2007 D-1

Together with two of my younger brothers, we took an Air Asia flight (Rm382 return) on Sunday 15 May 2007 for our first time visit to Hanoi, Vietnam.

We arrived at Hanoi in the evening and after immigration clearance, we were picked up by a hostel van together with two foreign tourists.

It took around an hour by the time our van arrived at our hostel (US18 for a room of 3 ) in down town Hanoi. Although we booked this hostel for just one night, our airport transfer to our hostel was a free service - so we saved US$9 for this airport taxi service, not bad a deal offered by most Vietnamese hostels in Hanoi !

Along the way from the airport to Hanoi city, we were not able to see much of the scenery as it was getting dark but the short journey gave us a quick glimpse of the country side !

After the hostel check in, we took a bath and decided to take a rest at our hostel room watching the local news and TV programs.

" Vietnam war, Red Communist flag, Vietcong, Ho Chi Minh, Boat People, Pho Bo (Beef noodle soup) - that's about all I know about Hanoi prior to flying here. But it was the Halong Bay which pull me to Hanoi called The City in a Bend of the River ! Can't wait to have a sip of the local drought beer , Bia Hoi and the Pho Bo, beef noodle soup to bid a warm welcome to our arrival in Hanoi today ! "
