The bus ride from Dandong to Dalian took about 5 hrs.
Dalian is a modern coastal city in the south eastern peninsula of Liaoning bordering the Yellow Sea. Further south, you have Lushun, a military / naval base.
Dalian has a number of tourist attractions especially beaches so ideally you may have to spend 3-4 days here in order to visit majority of the tourist sites. Both the bus & train stations are located next to each other. If you are keen to take a ferry crossing from Dalian to Yantai, you could buy the ferry tickets from several ticket booths in front of the train station.
The train station has special tourist (hop in & hop off-one way) buses which take you to over 15 tourist spots along the way and end at Bangchuidao Jingqu. For this bus route, I made 5 brief stopovers and visited the Fujiazhuang Beach, Polar Aquarium & Tiger Beach Park, Fishermen's Wharf, Adrian Village & the Bangchuidao.
In the down town Dalian, I spent my time visiting the Nan Shan (Japanese) & Russian scenic streets; Zhongshan Square, Tianjin & Shanghai streets etc.
