From Shangrila, I took a mini van ride together with 6 tourists and arrived at Qiaotou, the entrance to the Tiger Leaping Gorge at around 12.30pm. The van ride took about 3hrs. As I was travelling with another Chinese tourist, together we paid Y100 per person (include entrance fee of Y65) for another mini van ride to the Middle Tiger Leaping Gorge. On the way, our driver dropped us at the Tourist viewing platform at the Upper Tiger Leaping Gorge to have a closer look at the roaring water flowing down from the upper gorge. The views there were spectacular !
I put up a night at the Teacher Chang's Guest House. In the morning, I took a walk to a bridge near the waterfall area not far from the Tina's Guest House. I also took the opportunity to do a 2 hr of mountain trekking following Teacher Chang's walking trail starting from the guest house.
For those who enjoy mountain trekking and depending on your physical health, you could choose to start your walk from Qiatou and finish at Tina's Guest House, a distance of 24 km. Most could put up a night at the Halfway Guest House and then continue their walk in the morning towards Tina's Guest House. Following is the trail most mountain trekkers take:
Qiatou > Naxi > Tea Horse > Halfway > Tina's
