Yading Nature Reserve is best described as a hidden paradise of the earth in China or to the West this lost horizon was given a new name called Shangrila. In China, I had visited Kanas Nature Reserve (2006), northern Xinjiang & Qiuzhaiguo (2009), Sichuan in recent years. The natural landscape & mountain scenery in these two places are indeed gorgeous & stunning ! Now that I had seen Yading, I am truly impressed - so make sure you place these 3 places in your off the bucket list while in China - a must see !
Daocheng is about 73km from the Yading Tourist Centre. From the centre, there are resort buses to take you to the Integrated Service Station of Yading Natural Reserve area. The uphill bus ride takes about 1 hr (37km) passing the Shangrila town & Yading Village (hostel stay). From the Integrated service station, you could walk or start your mountain trekking or take shuttle buses to the various designated locations in the Reserve area. For those who enjoy mountain trekking, you probably need 2 days to complete the trek. The highlights are :
- 3 holy mountains to view & admire (Mt Jampayong, Mt Chandorje & Mt Chenrezig)
- The 5 colored lake
- The Milk lake
Yading Nature Reserve was opened to the public in late 1990's.
