The Best Moments of My Travelling Days - River Towns / Cities & It's Magnificenit Rivers (Part 2)


31) Tumen, Jilin Province, China (2015)



Tumen river, Jilin, China - a 521km long river that serves as part of the boundary between China, North Korea & Russia. In the 1990's, there were a number of illegal crossings by North Korea refugees using Tumen river to cross over to China. The bridge of Tumen river was built in 1941 linking the China & North Korea border. The North Korea town over the other side of the Tumen river is Namyang.


32) Yanji, Jilin Province, China (2015)



Along River & Yan He, Yanji, Jilin - Yanji is also known as the Third Korea as many of the residents here are descendants of Korea. The main river is Along river and the 2nd river is Yan He which gives its name to the city, Yanji. The gateway across the Along River is a new modern styled suspension bridge with two intertwining arches.


33) Dandong, Liaoning Province, China (2015)


Yalu Jiang River, bordering China & North Korea, Dandong, China - also called Amnok river. The river has been the site of several battles because of its strategic location between Korea & China. The Broken bridge upstream is a popular tourist attraction. The day cruise along the Yalu Jiang river allows you to catch a glimpse of North Korean country side located opposite of the Yanji city.


34) Mudanjiang, Heilongjiang Province, China (2015)




Mudan River, Heilongjiang, China - The city of Mudanjiang is named after the Mudan river or Peony river in the Heilongjiang province. The river is a right tributary of the Sungari that flows into Lake Jingpo.


35) Heihe, Heilongjiang Province - bordering China & Russia (2015)


Heihe River bordering China & Russia, Heilongjiang - Heihe means Black river. Heihe river basin is the 2nd largest inland river basin of China. It is situated in the arid north west of China, extending over the provinces of Qinghai, Gansu & Inner Mongolia.



36) Suifenhe, Heilongjiang Province, China (2015)


Suifenhe River bordering China & Russia - Suifenhe town shares it's name with the Suifenhe river. The Chinese railway crosses the border to Vladivostok, a naval port in Eastern Russia 


37) Tiger Leaping Gorge (Lijiang), Yunnan Province, China (2014)


Jinsha & Yangtze River, China - Tiger Leaping Gorge is a scenic canyon on the Jinsha river, a primary tributary of the upper Yangtze river, one of the most famous & longest river in the world. It travels a total distance of 6,418km


38) Kangding County, Sichuan Province, China (2014)


Zheduo & Yala River, Kanding, China - Kangding has been the historical border between Tibet & China. The raging Zheduo river flows through the city and converges with Yala river in another part of the city. In the city center, you can hear the roaring sound of this fast flowing Zheduo river during the day & night !




39) Lijiang Old Town (UNESCO), Yunnan Province, China (2014)


Jade river, canals & waterways, Lijiang, Yunnan, China - the old city of Lijiang is 800 years old built during the Song dynasty. The city has numerous canals & waterways and the water sources are from Jade river which flows along the old town streets.


40) Guilin, Guangxi Province, China (2005)


Li River (Lijiang), Guangxi, China - a river in Guangxi which flows 83km from Guilin to Yangshou, where the karst mountain and river sights highlight the famous Li river cruise. The Li river cruise is one of the "World's Top 10 Watery Wonders" .


41) Fenghuang Ancient City, Hunan Province, China (2012)


Tuo Jiang River, Fenghuang Ancient City, China - 131km long, the biggest river within the county, the ancient city wall is situated on the south bank of the river, the east & north has the two ancient city towers. Many of the hundred years old houses along the river were built on stilts. This mother river has been feeding the Fenghuang people from generations to generations.


42) Tianjin City, China (1997, 2009 & 2010)


Hai River, Tianjin, China (2012) - 1,329km long, Hai river is formed by the confluence of 5 rivers ie south canal, Ziya river, Daqing river, Yongding river & north canal. The Hai river cruise starts from Tianjin Railway station passing Jiefang bridge, Wenhua street, Shizilin bridge & Dabei Temple.


43) Phenom Penh, Cambodia (2014 & 2018)


Mekong River - Mekong is a trans-boundary river in South East Asia, the world 12th longest river & 7th longest in Asia, estimated length is 4,350km. From the Tibetan plateau, the river runs through China's Yunnan province, Myanmar, Laos, Thailand, Cambodia & Vietnam.



44) Solo, Java Indonesia - 2009


Solo River, Java, Indonesia - also called Bengawan Solo, the river is 600km long, the largest river in Java. An important river to the inhabitants & farmlands of eastern & northern Java. There is a well known song "Bengawan Solo" composed by Mr Gesang, a famous singer & song writer in Solo during the World War 11.


45) Irkutsk, Russia - 2009


Angara River, Irkutsk, Siberia - Angara river is in Siberia, about 1,779km long. It is the largest right tributary of the Yeniser river, the only river flowing out of Lake Baikal. 3 hydropower plants were built on this river.


46) Cesky Krumlov (UNESCO), Czech Republic - 2009


Vitava River, Cesky Krumlov - 430km long, the largest river within Czech Republic. It runs south east along the Bohemian Forest and the north across Bohemia through Cesky Krumlov, Cesky Budejovice & Prague.


47) La Vella, Andorra (2014) 


Gran Valira River, Andorra - the biggest river in Andorra. It flows through the capital, La Vella and exits the country in the south near the Spain-Andorra border crossing.


48) Amman, Capital of Jordan (2008)



Jordan river & Dead Sea - Jordan river, 251km long is in the Middle East flowing north to south through the Sea of Galilee and on to the Dead Sea. The river has a major significance in Judaism & Christianity. The Dead Sea is a salt lake bordering east of Jordan and Israel & Palestine on the west. The Dead Sea is 50km long & 15km wide and it's a main tributary of the Jordan river.


49) Dublin, Capital of Ireland (2014)


Liffey River, Dublin - Liffey river flows through the center of Dublin and supplies much of Dublin's water & a range of recreation opportunities. From east to west, there are over 20 bridges over the Liffey river, the famous ones are Samuel Beckett bridge, O'Connel bridge & Talbot Memorial bridge etc. 


50) Cordoba (UNESCO), Spain (2012)


Quadalquivir River, Cordoba - this river is 657km long, the 5th longest in the Iberian Peninsula & the 2nd longest river in Spain. Currently the river navigates to Seville. The Roman bridge of Cordoba is a bridge in the historic centre of Cordoba, originally built in the early 1st century BC across the Guadalquivir river.
