Subang Jaya LRT Station > Pasar Seni LRT Station - being a local, it took me about 4 1/2 hrs to complete my walking day tour (Saturday 31 Dec) in visiting some 20 iconic & historic landmarks in downtown Kuala Lumpur city area. Pasar Seni LRT station is a great starting point for this walking tour and with the help of a KL tourist map, I believe any travelers could visit the following iconic tourist attractions eg National Mosque, Chinatown, Merdeka Square etc with much ease, free & easy style ! Most of these attractions are centralized within a radius of 2-3 km so take your time and visit as many places as possible during your stay in Kuala Lumpur.

December is a wet month in Malaysia due to the north east monsoon season so bring along a small umbrella if you are undertaking this walking tour. The cool weather during this period makes the walk a very pleasant one !

Going British - Following the colonial heritage trail in Merdeka Square

In the 18th century, Peninsula Malaya was under British administration from 1826-1957 over a period of 131 years. Malaya achieved her independence from the British on 31st August 1957. It was in the Merdeka Square (Dataran Merdeka) that the British Union flag was lowered & Malaya flag hoisted for the first time at midnight (12.00am) on 31st August 1957. "Merdeka" in Indonesia & Malay language means independence or free ! Tunku Abdul Rahman, the first Prime Minister declared Malaya independence at Merdeka Square with 7 shouts of Merdeka, a very significant night indeed for all the fellow Malayans then !

" And the rest is history "
