- 2nd largest city in Malaysia
- Georgetown & Melaka were listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage site in 2008
- Founded by a British trader, Francis Light in 1786
- Colonized by the British in the 18th century
- 370km from Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia
- Penang is a food capital of Malaysia
- Over 40 tourist attractions & heritage sites to explore

- Efficient public transport ie buses, ferries serving downtown, suburban & the mainland areas; free Central Area Transit (CAT) buses looping the inner city of Georgetown
- KTM runs a high speed electric train service from mainland Butterworth to Kuala Lumpur, approx. travelling time is 4 hours - a pleasant & comfortable ride
