India (Post Covid-19 Overseas Visit No 7 - My 37 days Free & Easy Visit to Northern, Central & Southern India) City No 1 Amritsar, Punjab - Dec 12 2023 (Day 2)

Day 2 Dec 12 2023 (Amritsar, Final Day) - early morning familiarisation visit near our hotel area & then to Heritage Street, Partition Museum & Jallianwala Bagh; leaving Amritsar tonight (23.00) for a sleeper train ride (03.15 > 17.30, 608km) to Bikaner, Rajasthan, our next destination.   

1) Early morning walkabout in Amritsar, near our hotel area.

2) Monuments / Statutes in memory of prominent statemen in Amritsar, Punjab 


3) Statute of Maharaja Rangit Singh, Amritsar, Punjab - an iconic landmark in Amritsar city, near Golden Temple, the 19th century founder of the Sikh kingdom of Punjab. 


4) Local hop on & hop off day tour bus to 8-9 touristy places in & around Amritsar. 


5) Saragarhi Memorial Gurdwara & the surrounding, Amritsar, Punjab - located close to the Golden Temple, built in memory of the non-commissioned officers & men of the 36th Sikhs whose names have been engraved on a marble stone fixed on the wall of the gurdwara as a perpetual record of heroism shown by these gallant soldiers, they died at their posts in the defence of the frontier Fort of Saragarthi on Sept 12 1897 fighting against an overwhelming number of Pathans.  


6) Partition Museum by day, Amritsar, Punjab - admission fee Rp250 = Rm14.50 (foreigners), external visit only.
 

7) Amritsar Junction (Railway Station), Punjab - 1.3km from our hotel, visit to inquire re online registration of India Railway train ticket booking using a local SIM card. 


8) Jallianwala Bagh, Amritsar, Punjab - a historic garden & memorial of national importance close to the Golden Temple complex in Amritsar, preserved the memory of those wounded & killed in the Jullianwala Bagh Massacre that took place on the site on the festival of Baisakhi Day, April 13 1919. 


9) Vegetarian dinner in Golden Grain Restaurant, Amritsar, Punjab - ordered 3 varieties of tikka (a popular Indian dish), a vegetarian alternative to chicken tikka & other meat dishes, very tasty especially the mushroom tikka marinated in spices & grilled in a tandoor ! A treat from KF for this outdoor dinner meal in Amritsar ! After the dinner, continued our evening stroll to Golden Temple & Partition Museum area.
