Travel itinerary: Kuala Lumpur > Kuala Lipis (approx 172km)

Day 1 (Monday April 11 2022)

This 5 days 4 nights Cuti Cuti (Vacation) Malaysia was my 1st outstation trip under the Transition to Endemic Phase declared by the Malaysian Government commencing April 1 2022 . The total distance travelled ie round trip was approx 1,150km using mainly main trunk roads from Kuala Lumpur > Raub > Kuala Lipis > Mentakab > Temerloh > Maran > Sungei Lembing > Kuantan > Pekan > Kuala Rompin > Kuala Lumpur. Pekan & Kuala Rompin were my first time visit. Re-visiting  Kuala Lipis, Mentakab & Temerloh gave me fond memory as my last visit to these 3 country towns was 48 years ago !

Raub, Pahang - a town located 110km from Kuala Lumpur & 265km from Pahang's capital, Kuantan, Raub is one of the oldest towns in Pahang, in the early 1900s, Raub was famous for gold but is now world famous for Musang King durian ! Due to a closure of a section of the main trunk roads from Raub to Kuantan / Kuala Lipis, our group had to make a detour and it was a blessing that we had the opportunity to visit the Sang Lee New Village & "Durian Kampung Musang King", Kampung Baru Sungei Chetang, Raub. We really strike "gold", a real surprise to our group ! Durian grown in Raub is really a "King" here, like it or not ! What a surprise visit for this travel group of senior citizens who are all in their "Golden Year" !

A durian depot / station in Sang Lee New Village, Raub, Pahang - the popular varieties eg Musang King, XO, D-24, Black Thorn are collected from farms in the early morning & are distributed through the supply chain via small lorries or trucks for deliveries to outstation towns / urban centres during the early & peak durian season !

Old Durian trees in Kampung Baru Sang Lee, Raub, Pahang; old is gold, I believe the old durian trees produce the best quality durian & probably taste better !

Bought 3 pieces of D-24 durians from the durian depot (not their norm to sell to day trippers but they were happy to let go a few pieces of these farm fresh durian to our group) - totalled 6 kilos of D-24 durians @ Rm20 = Rm120 (US$28.50), best time to visit Raub is in July, the peak durian season, hopefully prices of durian are lower if there is a bumper harvest ! We shall return to savour the Raub durian, the best of the very best durian is sold here & exported to China & Singapore !

Kampung Baru Sungei Chetang, Raub also known as "Durian Kampung Musang King" ! In March 2018, the Ambassador of China in Malaysia officiated the launching of the "Durian Kampung Musang King" in Chetang durian station, Raub; interesting for our group to see some actions during our brief stopover in Chetang durian station ie loading up of Musang King durians onto 4 wheel trucks for outstation deliveries !  The countryside is very scenic to look at !

Roadside durian station / stall 29 along the main trunk road in Raub countryside, XO durian is selling for Rm33 per kilo ! Durian is getting very pricey for locals to eat these days !

Sinn Loong Foodstuffs Traders, Sempalit, Raub - our group bought some packets of peanuts, white ginger strips, wasabi nuts etc

Kebun Sea Loy Kacang Goreng Sempalit, Raub - bought papaya & cempedak (both taste really good) from this roadside stall.

Makan Makan (Eating) - our group's lunch in Restoran Shi Jia Lou, ordered 3 dishes ie steamed river catfish, stir fried Baku vege & signature taufu + rice + 1 pot of Chinese tea totalled Rm164.50 (US$38.50)

Steamed fresh river catfish
(1.6kilo) Rm128
Signature taufu with shredded pork
& soya sauce
Stir fried Baku Vegetable Rm12
