Travel Itinerary: Kuala Lipis > Jerantut > Mentakab > Temerloh > Maran > Sungei Lembing, Pahang (approx 290km)

Day 2 (Tuesday April 12 2022) - after our breakfast, we began our journey from Kuala Lipis to Sungei Lembing - a distance of approx 290km taking the main trunk road right up to Maran. After Maran, we used part of the Kuantan Highway to continue our joyful ride to Sungei Lembing. Along the way, our group had a stopover in Jerantut, Temerloh, Mentakab & Maran for a short break & light refreshment.

My last visit to Sungei Lembing was in July 2019 travelling with my Singapore buddy on public transport !  

Breakfast in Medan Selera Cina (Chinese Food Court), Kuala Lips, Pahang - 2 bowls of beef mi hoon soup + 1 bowl of pork noodle + 1 bowl of fish ball soup totalled Rm24(US$5.65)

Hilltop House of British Residence (1922), Kuala Lipis, Pahang - the highest point in Kuala Lipis, the 1st English Resident who stayed in this building was Sir Hugh Clifford also known as "the Superintendent of Ulu Pahang"


Jerantut, Pahang -  a small town & district in Pahang on the east coast of Peninsular Malaysia, the town is a popular starting point for excursions into Taman Negara (National Park)

Sungei Jan New Village & Jerantut, Pahang - taking a leisure drive along the main trunk roads from Kuala Lipis towards Maran, a brief stopover to refill petrol & toilet run, bought some bananas from a roadside stall. 

Mentakab, Pahang - located 82km from Kuala Lumpur & 9km from downtown Temerloh; a brief stopover / visit, a  down the memory lane visit for me as my last visit to this country town was 48 years ago ! 



Light refreshment at a soya bean drink mobile truck stall in Jalan Mok Hee Kiang, Mentakab; our group enjoyed a cup of natural soya drink & a bowl of Doufuhua or tofu pudding (savoury snack made with tender tofu) Rm2.50 (US$0.60) each, also takeaway 1 bottle of soya drink 1 litre pack Rm7.50 (US$1.80), also bought a packet of Sai Kei Ma (traditional Chinese pastry) from a nearby stall.

Star Mall, Mentakab, Pahang - a shopping mall in the suburb of Mentakab. 


Temerloh, Pahang - located 130km from Kuala Lumpur along the Kuantan-Kuala Lumpur main trunk road, 2nd largest town in Pahang, it's geographical position is very unique ie right at the "centre of Peninsular Malaysia", an old town with some colonial buildings & shophouses, sits at the confluence of Pahang & Semantan rivers, rich in freshwater fish ie Patin, Jelawat, Tilapia & Kerai, Baung, Tengglan; a down the memory visit for me as my last visit to Temerloh was in 1974 (48 years ago) !   


1) Pahang River - begins at the confluence of Jelai & Tembeling rivers on the Titiwangsa Mountains & drains into the South China Sea.

3) Pekan Sehari (Sunday Bazaar), Temerloh, Pahang - located along the town's riverside, the Sunday Bazaar is a place where a wide range of commodities are sold at a reasonable price, said to be the longest & biggest in the whole of Pahang, sellers normally come by riverboat early in the morning & take their place before the arrival of customers at around 07.00 in the morning, Sunday morning are busy when boats come & go ferrying passengers & goods to the Pekan Sehari, due to Ramadan (Fasting Month), there was no much activities at the time of our visit ! 


4) Temerloh, Home of Patin Fish - Patin fish is a species of catfish & is known as the Basa fish or Pengasius or silver catfish, these fish are native to the rivers of South-East Asia, known for its soft texture & nutritional value, the steak cut is usually deep-fried & mixed together in strong flavours like sambal & curry.   


5) Makan Makan (Eating) - due to Ramadan (Fasting Month), most Muslim operated eatery stalls were closed for business but one eatery stall was able to offer takeaway lunch in Pekan Sehari, Temerloh, so our group bought 3 packs of curry Patin fish + Rice = Rm15 (US$3.50) per pack; this allowed us to savour this Patin local delicacy at a cool shady place in Taman Esplanade, not far from where our group bought the Patin fish takeaway packs ! 


6) Taman Esplanade, Jalan Ibrahim, Temerloh, Pahang - an ideal place for holiday makers & family outing, nearby there is a suspension bridge & raft houses for anglers to relax & family to chill & enjoy.

Day 2 (Tuesday Apirl 12 2022 Afternoon)

Maran, Pahang - half way between Temerloh & Kuantan, surrounded by isolated forest & oil palm plantations mainly in the area of FELDA Jengka.

Sungei Lembing, Pahang - a small town in Kuantan District, Pahang, 42km northwest of Kuantan, founded in 1900s as a tin mining community when the British company Pahang Consolidated Company Limited set up the tin mining industry there after mining activities had begun in 1886 !

4) Museum Sungai Lembing & Sungei Lembing Tunnel - closed at the time of our visit, the tunnel was also closed for maintenance !

6) Kampung Kolong Pahat (Hanging Bridge), Sungei Lembing, Pahang - a very pleasant walk on the hanging bridge & the area surrounding this village, family shops making hand made noodles, pastry, confectionery & tau fu fa - tourist's delight ! 



7) Makan Makan (Eating) - our group's simple dinner in a coffee shop in Sungei Lembing town - 3 plates of fried noodles Rm18 (US$4.25) + soy drink (BYO)



8) Hotel Accommodation (2nd Night) - overnight stay in Pollock View Resort, Sungei Lembing, Pahang, a triple bed room Rm66 (US$15.50), walking distance to Sungei Lembing Hawker & Town Centre.
