New Zealand (Picton, South Island) March/April 2016

Total costs incurred : NZ$73.88
Food: NZ$5.90
Bus: NZ$8.99 (Naked Bus - Picton & gt;Kaikoura)
Ferry: NZ$58.99 (Interislander - Picton & gt;Wellington)

3) Picton > Kaikoura (Bus)

My 3rd bus ride (Naked Bus) from Picton Ferry Terminal > Opposite "Why Not" Cafe, West End, Kaikoura (13.15>15.25) - 156km. The bus made a brief stopover in Blenheim before arriving in Kaikoura.

The Interislander ferry (Kaitaki) departing Wellingtion at 09.00 arriving Picton 12.30 connect with the Coastal Pacific train to Christchurch passing Blenheim & Kaikoura. The train rides run parallel to the scenic South Pacific Ocean coastline - so for tourists who enjoy travelling by trains, go for it and I believe it will be a most comfortable and scenic way of seeing the South Island - the train & ferry fares from Wellington to Christchurch combined is around NZ$140 - www.kiwirailscenic.co.nz.

Upon my returning visit from South Island to North, I had 2-3 spare hours in Picton so this gave me an opportunity to explore the Picton waterfront & downtown areas - a great outcome even though I did not stay overnight in Picton.
