Day 2 Sunday May 14 2023 Surabaya, Java Part 2 continued - an exciting long day awaiting us given that it was my first time visit to Surabaya, Java & for my travel buddy too !  After the post - Covid 19 pandemic, I would try to seize every travel opportunities (if budget permits) come my way (being a senior citizen & in my early 70s) & show up in any city or country I have yet to visit or re-visit as long as I am still able & healthy like the Good Old Days after my retirement in 2006 !

Surabaya, East Java - a port city in Java island, a vibrant, sprawling metropolis, the urban landscape has a mix of modern skyscrapers with canals & buildings from its Dutch colonial past, it has a thriving Chinatown & an Arab Quarter whose Ampel  mosque dating back to 15th century, the Tugu Pahlawan (Heroes Monument) honors the independence battle waged in Surabaya's streets in 1945 !

1) Continued my walkabout in downtown Surabaya - I am impressed with this port city, excellent public transport, friendly people, colonial style buildings & modern shopping malls etc

2) Food Court, Pasar Atom Mall, Surabaya, East Java - interesting to see the food court has a number of Chinese food stalls in business (bak kut teh, Hong Kong dim sum, satay pork, Hainanese chicken rice, pork noodle etc) & I am pleased to highlight a few of the Indonesian Chinese food pronounced in local Chinese dialects (in particular Hokkien) ie kuotieh (fried flat white noodle), sioke (roasted chicken), siobak (roasted pork) & chasiow (barbecued pork) !

8) After a very satisfying Hainanese chicken rice  dinner, both of us took a stroll back to our hotel in Jalan Tunjungan, Surabaya, Java.
