Our bus departed from Xiamen Hubin bus station at 09.10 and arrived at Hukeng around 12.45.

Upon arrival at a bus stop along the main trunk road's traffic junction turning towards the Hukeng Tulou, we were picked up (by motorbike) by the owner of the Fuyulon Changdi hostel. After buying the admission tickets, we proceeded to check into our hostel - owned by a Lim family , the 7th generation of this UNESCO heritage site.

The admission ticket (Y$45 for seniors, 1/2 price) for Hukeng Tulou entitled tourists to visit 6 earth buildings ie Zhencheng, Rusheng, Kuiju, Jingyang, Fuyu & Qingyun buildings and valid for two days. The tickets can be arranged and purchased at the Yongding Hakka Tulou-Custom Culture Village by the hostel owner.

It took about 3 hrs for us to visit the major Tulou in Hukeng under a warm afternoon sun.

The hostel provides a complimentary breakfast but we ordered our lunch & dinner at the hostel. There was not much to do at the tulou at night so we decided to leave by bus for Meizhou via Longyan in the early morning.

1) Hukeng, Fujian - a town situated in Yongding County, Longyan, Fujian, Hukeng town cotains one of the Hakka settlements in China & a large number of Fujian Tulou; China has over 20,000 tulou; round or squarish scattered around the Yongding area.

2) Zhengcheng Lou (UNESCO), Hukeng, Fujian

3) Rusheng Lou (UNESCO), Hukeng, Fujian

4) Yi Seng Lou, Hukeng, Fujian

5) Other Fujian Tulou (Earth Buildings) in Hukeng, Fujian

6) Fuyi Lou, Hukeng, Fujian - my 2 nights homestay in this 300 years old Fujian tulou (built in 1870) owned by a Lim's Hakka family !

2 single bed room with fan - Y$100 for 2

7) Free breakfast & our home cooked Hakka dinner in Fuyi Tulou, Hukeng, Fujian

Free Breakfast - Simple & Hearty Meal

Home cooked authentic Hakka dinner

8) Walkabout in Hukeng Tulou Tourist Resort Area, Fujian

9) A friendly encounter with a local Hakka resident near our hostel in Fuyu Lou. Lots of goodwill and smiles as we chatted about our ancestor's past, our roots, the local customs & culture etc

10) The young junior Lim, the hostel's owner's son gave us a lift from a main trunk road traffic junction drop off to Fuyu Lou for our hostel's check-in. This super modified China-made bike could carry three persons with two cabin size luggage & two backpacks - an interesting ride for two first timers to Hukeng Tulou !

11) A billboard featuring a local film entitled "Down to Nanyang, a journey starting from Yongding Tulou" - many of our Malaysian Chinese ancestors could fit in with this film's storyline ! From coolies (laborers) to fat cat; from rags to riches and returning to their homeland with honor & pride !

" Life is not about the destination but the journey that get us there "
