Day 4 Monday Sept 26 2022 (Part 1) - Day 1 of my 3 days 2 nights stay in Alor Setar prior to our group's visit to Kuala Perlis & Langkawi. Day 1 of my visit mainly focused on touristy places in Alor Setar ie Rumah Kelahiran Mahathiar, Tugu Phlawan, Rumah Tosu, Taman Jublis Emas, Gunung Liang Recreation Park, & Paddy Museum. 

Alor Setar, Kedah - Alor Setar was founded by the late Sultan Muhammad Jiwa Zainal Abidin Muadzam Shah, the 19th Sultan of Kedah (1710 - 1778) on Saturday Dec 31 1735, His Royal Highness officially moved from Kota Bukit Pinang Palace to Kota Star Palace, the name Alor Star was taken from from a small groove called "Alor" & a huge tree called "Setar" by the locals which grew by the side of the "Alor" hence the name of  " Alor Star" was given to the 8th administrative centre of Kedah. 

1) Makan Makan (Eating) - our group's breakfast in Kedai Kopi Lor San, 38, Persiaran Sultan Abdul Hamid, Taman Persiaran Tanjung Chali, Alor Setar, Kedah, KM's delight, duck dumpling herbal soup noodle Rm9 (US$1.90) - the herbal soup was superb tasty ! 

2) Rumah Kelahiran Mahathir, Alor Setar, Kedah - closed on Friday & Monday so just took a few pictures from outside of the gate & been there done that ! 


3) Pekan Rabu Complex, Alor Setar, Kedah

5) Tugu Phlawan (Heroes's Monument), Darul Aman Highway, Alor Setar, Kedah - dedicated to the fallen heroes of the country, the annual celebration of Warriors's Day is also held here. 


6) Rumah Tok Su, Alor Setar, Kedah - over 100 years old, previously the dwelling of a village chief (penghulu) ! 

7) Taman Jublis Emas, Kampung Suka Menati, Alor Setar, Kedah

10) Paddy Fields, Gunung Liang, Alor Setar, Kedah - the state is known as the rice bowl of Malaysia, producing 1/3 of the rice in the country. 


11) Pusat Akuatik Negeri Kedah, Gunung Liang, Alor Setar, Kedah - closed at the time of our visit ! 


12) Paddy Muzium, Gunung Keriang, Alor Setar, Kedah - front entrance & main complex, the design of the Museum looks like bundle of paddy stalks, there is one main building & 6 smaller "bundle" buildings, a must visit when in Alor Setar ! Admission fee for adults & seniors is Rm5 (US$1.05). 


13) Level 3, Puchak Gunung Keriang, Paddy Museum, Alor Setar, Kedah - admission fee Rm5 (US$1.05), no elevator so be prepared to walk up to the 3rd floor viewing platform, seats are available for you to relax & rest, non-airconditioned so could be stuffy & warm especially during the late morning to early afternoon, revolving 360 degree mural (8 metre high & 103 metre in length), a mountain top view of the Gunung Kerinag & Alor Setar landscape & community / rural Kedah life painted in lively detail, mural was painted by 60 North Korean artists who spent 2 years living in nearby villages, the grand museum was officially opened in Oct 2004.
