Sunday Day 3 Sept 25 2022 - Day 1 of our group's 3 days 2 nights stay in Alor Setar, Kedah focusing our visits to major touristy places ie Dataran Alor Setar, Masjid Zahir, Kedah Royal Museum, Wat Nidrodharam, Alor Setar Tower, Street Art, Pekan Melayu & Pekan Cina. Before arriving Alor Setar, our group also made a side trip to Sungei Patani on the way !

Alor Setar, Kedah - the state capital of Kedah, the 2nd largest city in the state after Sungei Petani & one of the most important cities on the west coast of Peninsula Malaysia

1) Makan Makan (Eating) - our groups' breakfast in Sentosa Corner Food Court, Taman Sentosa, Bukit Metajam prior to visiting Alor Setar, Kedah; KM's delight Jawa Mi Rm5 (US$1.05) & also yam cake @Rm3.50 (US$0.70).

Sungei Petani - a town in Kuala Muda District, Kedah, the largest city in Kedah located about 55km south of Alor Setar, the capital of Kedah & 33km northeast of Geroge Town, the capital city of the neighbouring state of Penang.

3) Sungei Petani Town, Kedah 

Alor Setar, Kedah - the state capital of Kedah, the 2nd largest city in the state after Sungei Petani & one of the most important cities on the west coast of Peninsula Malaysia

1) Pekan Melayu & Pekan Cina, Alor Setar, Kedah - located in the bay of Tanjung Chali which is the main port of shipping in the good old days, buildings here were constructed as early as 1920s !

5) Makan Makan (Eating) - our group's lunch in Kedai Kopi Lor San, Alor Setar, Kedah - each of us savoured a plate of pork noodle / mi-suan + fish ball soup @ Rm7 (US$1.50), the best wan tan noodle I had eaten thus far - the home made noodle was soft & springy ! The next two mornings, our group showed up again & had our breakfast (duck dumpling & pork ribs herbal soup) in this same Kopitiam .... 

6) Masjid Nagore, Alor Setar, Kedah - built in 1881 !

9) Masjid Zahir (Mosque), Alor Setar, Kedah, Jalan Kampung Perak, Bandar Alor Setar, Kedah- built in 1912, the state mosque of Kedah, one of the grandest & oldest mosque in Malaysia, voted as one of the top 10 most beautiful mosques in the world ! 


10) Nobat Hall (Balai Nobat), Bandar Alor Setar, Kedah - a building & mini tower supposedly used to store instruments only played at royal ceremonies such as royal weddings.  


11) The High Court Building (Mahkamah Tinggi), Alor Setar, Kedah 


12) The Main Hall (Balai Besar), Alor Setar, Kedah  


13) Muzium Diraja Kedah (Kedah Royal Museum), Alor Setar, Kedah - no photography inside the museum exhibits !

16) Restoran Bamboo Garden, Alor Setar, Kedah - Chinese & Thai cuisine - two of my travel buddies had a light refreshment here after a visit to the Dataran Alor Setar. 


17) Wat Nidrodharam (Wat Siam Telok Wanjah), Taman Tunku Habsah, 
Alor Setar Kedah - built in 1968, a Thai Buddhist temple, the main gate was locked at the time of our visit. 

18) Menara Alor Setar (Kedah Tower), Darul Aman Highway, Bandar Alor Setar, Kedah - a 4 storey, 165.5 meter tall telecommunication tower tower in Alor Setar, Malaysia's 3rd tallest tower, the 2nd tallest structure in the northern region of Peninsular Malaysia behind KOMTAR.

19) Hotel Accommodation: our group's 2 night stay in JP Hotel, Jalan Stadium, Taman Stadium, Alor Setar, Kedah, family room (triple sharing 1 single 1 double) Rm85 (US$17.90) per night. 

20) Makan Makan (Eating) - our group's dinner in Restoran MalThai Kitchen, Jalan Stadium, Taman Stadium, Alor Setar, Kedah, KM's delight Nasi Goreng MalThai Rm10 (US$2.10)

21) Jalan Jalan (Walkabout) - an evening walk near Pekan Melayu Pekan Cina, Alor Setar, witnessed a Nine Emperor Gods festive activity near a riverfront together with a large crowd of locals & bought a few steamed char siew pau from a roadside stall for supper !

23) Alor Setar Tower by Night, Kedah - a starry starry night when the tower is lighted up with changing colour ! Attractive to look at from far ! Thanks to Thompson who had taken a number of photos on Alor Setar Tower using his mobile phone camera - very well taken !
