Malaysia (Covid-19 National Recovery Phase 4 - My Staycation No 16 - Exploring The Old World Charm of Kuala Lumpur City Center) Wednesday Nov 24 2021

" My Staycation & Jalan Jalan (Walkabout) free & easy visit (08.45>15.00) with my travel buddies, KF Wong & Thompson Tham to explore the Old World Charm of the Kuala Lumpur City Center on Wednesday Nov 24 2021, travelling by Rapid KL LRT train from SS15, Subang Jaya (my home place) > Pasar Seni (Central Market) & return; my 16th outdoor trip after a National Lockdown (Movement Control Order / Emergency) imposed by the Malaysian Government on May 6 2021, due to a spike in Covid-19 cases, a National Vaccination Campaign is currently being implemented by the Malaysian Government (Phase 1 started in Feb 2021, as at Nov 23 2021, a total of 22.4 million individuals or 95.8% of the adult population in Malaysia have completed their Covid-19 vaccinations), Selangor (my home state) is now under National Recovery Phase 4 (NRP4) starting from Monday Oct 11 2021 hence the Malaysian Government has eased restrictions allowing individuals with vaccination certificate or card for inter-state travels, dine restaurants, hotel accommodations & homestay, outdoor sport & activities etc " 

My travel buddies, KF Wong & Thompson Tham, accompanied me for this visit. 


Total expenses incurred (2 LRT train rides): Rm1.90 x 2 =Rm3.80 (US$0.89), the distance from Subang Jaya (my home place) to Pasar Seni (Central Market) is approx 20km

The Old World Charm Of Kuala Lumpur City Center - a modern city with an Old World Charm, KM Cheng's group charming staycation, 19th century pre-war shophouses, British colonial-style buildings, old charm & great taste, decades old traditional Hainanese coffee shops (Kopitiam), Old China cafes in Chinatown, antique decor, old vintage posters, black & white pictures of historic story, relaxed ambience & cozy environment, five foot ways & old alleys, Little Demon Lane (Kwai Chai Hong) transformed into a tourist attraction, street art reflecting the old charm of KL, younger crowd in their 20s & 30s chilling with friends in old Kopitiam, old shophouses with a new image & a new coat of paints !

Exploring the Old World Charm of Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman (Batu Road), Jalan Dang Wangi (Campbell Road) & Jalan Masjid India, City Center, Kuala Lumpur - early traders & big names in food service & entertainment business in Batu Road, to name a few by my travel buddy, KF Wong who worked in this area in the 1970s were G S Gill, P Henry, P Lal, Bata, Mun Loong, Emporium, Kamdar, Globe Silk Store, Seiko, Coliseum Cafe & Cinema, Capital Cafe, City Hotel, Odeon Theatre, Pertama & Campbell Complex .... many of these were household names to the older folks like me !

Coffee shops, Kopitiam, Kafei Dian, Side Walk Cafe .... go for it & enjoy a cup of coffee cham whenever you are in Kuala Lumpur City Center - there are a number of popular Kopitiam operating within the vicinity in Jalan Sultan / Jalan Panggung / Jalan Polis area, opposite the Kwai Chai Hong !

2) Ho Kow Hainam Kopitiam (Coffee Shop), Jalan Polis, City Center, Kuala Lumpur - established by Uncle Ho Kow's father since 1956, a household name in Hainanese breakfast, freshly brew Hainanese coffee (coffee is damn kaw) & crisply kaya butter toast, snaking queue during pre-Covid 19 days & National Recovery Phase, electronic queue system (pick a number & wait for your turn), 15-20 minutes waiting time or even longer especially during the weekends & public holidays ! At 10.30, our group picked a number & joined a queue, but due to uncertainly of the waiting time, our group decided to give up & headed to Lorong Tuanku Abdul Rahman to explore the Old World Charm in that area !

3) Kafe Dian (Kopitiam), Jalan Panggung, Kuala Lumpur - an old style building once the old post office in 1911 in Malay & Tudor style architecture, nice ambience & cosy environment ! On Nov 14 2021 (Sunday) after doing a KL Heritage Walk, Thompson & myself had an enjoyable light lunch in this popular Kopitiam in the City Center of Kuala Lumpur before heading home !
