KL Heritage Trail - pictures of Central Market, Kasturi Walk, Old Market Square, River of Life & Merdeka Square, City Center, Kuala Lumpur in panorama taken by my travel buddy, Thompson Tham. I did an evening visit following the KL Heritage Trail last Saturday Nov 6 2021; admiring these heritage buildings & places in a different light; day or night, these heritage buildings all had a glorious past !

1) Central Market, City Center, Kuala Lumpur - the Cultural Bazzar (Pasar Seni) was formerly the Central Market (Pasar Besar), the original market was constructed in 1888 & 1889 to serve Kuala Lumpur's large tin mining community, it was a wet market which sold seafood, meat, vegetables, & everyday items, there were frequent renovations & extensions costing millions of Malaysian Ringgit to cater for Kuala Lumpur' growing population, the market acquires its Art deco style in 1936 under an expansion plan drawn up by town engineer RH Steed, Art deco was very popular in the 1930s, among the new features were a stepped arch & square motif on the walls, City Hall earmarked the building for demolition in the early 1980s but the Malaysian Heritage Trust stepped in to save the building, it became the Cultural Bazaar in April 1986 & a popular market for handicrafts, the place is a major tourist attraction !  As I arrived early in the morning (08.45), the surrounding area was quiet & devoid of visitors !

2) Kasturi Walk, City Center, Kuala Lumpur - a covered, open air flea market, along Jalan Kasturi, a lane alongside Central Market. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the stalls in the flea market were closed at the time of my visit !

3) Lebuh Pasar Besar (Old Market Square), City Center, Kuala Lumpur - one of the oldest street in the heart of Kuala Lumpur (KL), lined with old heritage buildings, the Kapitan Cina Yap Ah Loy (1837>1885, an important figure of early KL) lived here, his house which no longer exist was at the junction of Market Street & Rodger Street (now named as Jalan Kasturi).

4) River of Life, City Center, Kuala Lumpur - a conservation heritage project to beautify the areas surrounding Sungai Klang & Sungai Gombak, the starting point leading to the birth of Kuala Lumpur city in 1857 !

5) Merdeka Square, City Center, Kuala Lumpur - a square located in front of the Sultan Abdul Samad Building (1894), literally Independence Square, it was formerly known as the Selangor Club Padang & was used as the cricket green of the Royal Sealngor Club.

4) My Jalan Jalan (Walkabout) in River of Life, City Center, Kuala Lumpur (09.45>10.30) - Kuala Lumpur was founded in 1857 at the confluence of the Gombak & Klang rivers, the name Kuala Lumpur in English literally means "muddy confluence" !

Clouds of mist blowing over the river area (10.00 > 10.30)
Tourists will be on Cloud Nine when they see this phenomenon

5) Masjid Jamek, City Center, Kuala Lumpur

6) My Jalan Jalan (Walkabout) in Merdeka Square (focusing my visits on Countdown Clock, City Theatre, Sultan Abdul Samad Building, City Center, Kuala Lumpur, 10.30>12.00); it was here that the Malaysian flag was raised for the very first time at 12.01 on August 31 1957 to replace the Union Jack, thus signifying the end of British rule over Malaya & the end of colonisation, it is also here that Malaysians regardless of race & belief, throng in the thousands, on the eve of August 31 every year to usher in yet another year of independence, the Merdeka Square is also the venue of many independence Day celebrations & parades, the 95 meter flagpole at the end of the square is among the tallest in the world, the Merdeka Square, previously known as the Selangor Club Padang was built by the British in 1884 during their colonisation of Malaya, the strategic site & exclusive location resembled the atmosphere & environment of their homeland, the field was a popular venue for social activities & occasionally  used for the game of cricket, at the corner of the Square stands a fountain that was built in 1897.

1) Dataran Merderka, City Center, Kuala Lumpur
2) Countdown Clock
3) Panggung Bandaraya (City Theatre), City Center, Kuala Lumpur
4) Sultan Abdul Samad Building, City Center, Kuala Lumpur

7) Small eat & little life pleasure - lunch (12.30>13.00) with my travel buddy, Thompson Tham in Kafe Dian (Kopitiam), Jalan Panggung, Kuala Lumpur - an old style building once the old post office in 1911 in Malay & Tudor style architecture, nice ambience, no pork, serves mostly Malaysian favourite food ie soft boiled egg with toasted bread in kaya & butter, nasi lemak, Penang Assam Laksa, prawn noodle soup, Chicken hor fun soup, dim sum including chicken glutinous rice, lotus paste bun & lao shar bao ! Thompson guided me in using my mobile phone's QR quote to order our food online (my 1st attempt) ! KM's delight ie Hainanese coffee cham (hot coffee & tea mixed) Rm2.90 & Chee Cheong Fun Rm5. After the lunch, both of us headed to Pasar Seni MRT/ LRT station & took a train ride home & look forward for another meet-up in the coming week ! A great Sunday outing for me & Thompson to get a feel of the City Center in a typical Sunday weekend during the monsoon season (Nov>March) & Covid-19 pandemic period !

Chee Cheong Fun (Rice Noodle Roll) Rm5 (US$1.20)
Lao shar bao (steamed bun with custard & salted egg) Rm4.50 (US$1.06)
Hainanese Coffee Cham Rm2.90 (US$0.70)

Tuesday Nov 16 2021 - a morning walk near my neighbourhood in SS17, Subang Jaya, Selangor, my 1st lesson using my mobile phone camera to capture a few pictures of my neighbourhood in panorama - a small learning curve for me but I believe practice makes perfect !
