Thailand (Hat Yai) Jan 2016

Train (Hat Yai > Hua Hin): 869bht (lower bed), 779bht (upper)
Bus (Hat Yai > Kuala Lumpur) : 650bht

I had so far visited Hat Yai 5-6 times, not staying overnight but merely for a short stopover to take a connecting train to Hua Hin or Bangkok. For my trips back from Bangkok to Malaysia, I normally take a train from Bangkok to Hat Yai and upon arrival, take the first available bus to Kuala Lumpur.

For this trip, we should have stay overnight in Hat Yai to recover our energy but we chose to continue our journey by train from Hat Yai to Hua Hin. So our 6-7 hrs of spare time in Hat Yai made some of us restless and by the time we boarded our train at 18.30 for Hua Hin, it was time for us to take a hard earned rest or go to sleep !

If ever I visit Hat Yai again, I would like to stay overnight and take the opportunity to visit Songkhla, a fishing town with a beach and a statute of a mermaid, 25km from Hat Yai.

Being close to the Malaysian border, Malaysians enjoyed coming to Hat Yai, both for food & shopping !
