Day 4 Saturday Aug 30 2025 (Urumqi, Xinjiang D-2) - plenty of fun roaming the downtown Urumqi day & night if you are resourceful & energetic - need a few bars of museli bars to munch & give you the extra energy to walk that extra mile ! For Day 2, we were more than pleased to visit the Hongshan Park, Hongshan Dried Fruit Market, Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region Museum, Nanhu People Square & a starry starry walk to see the Grand Bazaar by Night !
In my last 2 visits to Urumqi (2006 & 2015), I had visited Tianshan Tianchi Lake, International Grand Bazaar, Erdaojio & Hongshan Park. I am glad that (at aged 75) I was able to do a 3rd free & easy visit to Urumqi, Xinjiang, re-visiting & roaming these touristy places (mainly by public buses) one more time ! Time flies, a big swing from 2006 to 2015 & to the present year of 2025, very much motivated by "My China Dream. My Dream" thinking & feeling ! Nihao, Urumuqi ! For sure, Xinjiang is more lively, vibrant & full of vibes these days !

4) Great Buddha Temple, Hongshan Park, Urumqi, Xinjiang - an ancient Qing Dynasty temple complex, reconstructed in 1989, the temple consists of 6 main halls ie the Heavenly King Hall, Mahavira Hall, Guangyin Hall, Ksitigarbha Hall, Wealth God Hall & Thousand-hand Guanyin Hall. The sacred statues enshrined here include Sakyamuni, Maitreya Buddha, Guangyin (Avalokiteshyara), Ksitigarbha (Dizang)m the Four Heavenly Kings & the Eighteen Arhats. As a Han Chinese Temple, it embodies the profound heritage of Chinese national culture.
5) Hongshan Pagoda, Hongshan Park, Urumqi, Xinjiang - from the viewing platform, you could get a good view of downtown Urimuqi, Xinjiang !
6) A panoramic view of Urumqi City from Hongshan Pagoda, Hongshan Park, Urumqi, Xinjiang
7) A short walk to the People's Park, Urumqi, Xinjiang - a public urban park in the centre of Urumqi.
8) Bought groceries, breads & pastries from nearby shops
9) Hongshan Dried Fruit Market, Urumqi, Xinjiang - a number of stalls selling mainly dried fruit, bought some dried raisins from a local stall.
9) Bus ride from the Dried Fruit Market > Urumqi Museum
9) Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region Museum, Urumqi, Xinjiang - the best museum you will find along the Silk Road & home to some of the area's most famous & ancient artifacts.
10) A modern shopping mall in downtown Urumqi, Xinjiang & a glimpse of cityscape of Urumqi from the bus rides !
11) Nahu People Square, Urumqi, Xinjiang = a large public park in Urumqi, Xinjiang.
12) Bus ride from Nahu People Square > Maheng Hotel, Urumqi, Xinjiang - a very productive day & a well earned rest in the hotel before we ventured out to visit the Grand Bazaar by Night !
13) A short walk from the nearest bus stop to Grand Bazaar Pedestrian Street, Urumqi, Xinjiang - what a wonderful night to end our day in Urumqi, Xinjiang !
14) Grand Bazaar Pedestrian Street, Urumqi, Xinjiang - at the time of our visit, all the light in the Grand Bazaar was lighted up making the entire place very vibrant & full of vibes, a must see & visit when nightfall in Urumqi, Xinjiang !
14) Last bus ride (08.00) from a bus stop nearby Grand Bazaar > Maheng Hotel, Urumqi
15) Cold noodle dinner from a roadside stall nearby our hotel - Good Night !
