Malaysia (Covid-19 & My Staycation No 26 - Batu Caves, Gombak, Selangor) Jan 9 2021

" The older I get, the more I understand that it's OK to live a LIFE others don't understand "

" My Staycation & Jalan Jalan (Walkabout) free & east day trip (Saturday Jan 9 2021 09.30 > 14.00) to Batu Caves, Gombak, Selangor, travelling by Rapid KL & KTM trains from SS15, Subang Jaya to Batu Caves; my 26th outdoor trip after the lifting of Movement Control Order (MCO) on June 10, 2020 but due to a spike in Covid-19 cases, my home state of Selangor was placed under Conditional Movement Order (CMCO) from Oct 14 2020 to March 31 2021 (extended 3 times) but inter-state travel ban was lifted on Dec 9 2020; my last visit to Batu Caves was in Sept 2018 "

Total costs incurred (4 train rides): Rm6.80 (US$1.68)
LRT trains - Rm2.10 x 2 (Senior 50% discount)
KTM trains - Rm1.30 x 2 (Senior 50% discount)

Travel itinerary:  SS15 Rapid KL LRT station > KL Sentral; KL Sentral KTM station > Batu Caves KTM station > KL Sentral station; KL Semtral Rapid KL LRT station > SS15, Subang Jaya

The start of my Rapid KL SS15 LRT station > KL Sentral station, Kuala Lumpur

My KTM train ride from KL Sentral KTM station > Batu Caves KTM station (take 30 minutes) - the station was quiet & deserted, only 5-6 commuters boarded the train to Batu Caves !

Arrival at the Batu Caves side & front entrance - due to the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO), the side entrance (right in front of the KTM station) was closed to the public, hence visitors & tourists had to use the front entrance to enter - a 5 minutes walk from the station !

Batu Caves, Gombak, Selangor - a limestone hill comprising 3 major caves & a number of smaller ones, limestone formations said to be 400 million years old; located 11km from the north of Kuala Lumpur; most frequented tourist attractions, the largest Cathedral Cave houses several Hindu shrines, Batu Caves is the focal point of the annual Hindu Thaipusam Festival which attracts thousands of devotees & visitors, usually held at the end of January; due to Covid-19 pandemic & travel restrictions, the crowd turnout in Batu Caves is very much less (probably downed by 70%) compared with the pre-Covid-19 period !

Hindu temples, shrines, statutes & idols in Cathedral Cave, Batu Caves

Lord Murugan Statute, Batu Caves

272 steps (in rainbow colors) to the top of the cave - an arduous climb especially for an oldie like me (70 years old), I took 7 minutes (2 to 3 short rests along the way) to reach the top but for the super fit, you can do it in 2 minutes ! A real test of my physical strength !

Monkeys loitering around the caves seeking for food .....

Sri Subramaniam Temple, Batu Caves

Hanuman Statute & Hanuman Hindu Temple, Batu Caves

Cave Villa Art Gallery, Batu Caves - due to CMCO, the art gallery was closed to the public !

Other temples, religious sites & souvenir shops in Batu Caves

After almost an hour of visit in Batu Caves, I decided to head for home & took a KTM train from Batu Caves station & a Rapid KL LRT train from KL Sentral to SS 15, Subang Jaya, my home place - a wonderful outcome after seeing Batu Caves in Beauty of Colors one more time amid a Covid-19 pandemic which is unlikely to disappear anytime soon ! Clearly, my this morning visit to Batu Caves is not a boring one !
