Malaysia (Royal Selangor Visitor Center / Pewter Factory, Kuala Lumpur) Feb 16 2020 Part 1


" My Jalan Jalan / Walkabout in Wangsa Maju to visit the Royal Selangor Visitor Center / Pewter Factory, Setapak Jaya (a pioneer in pewterwares making since 1885) by Rapid KL LRT trains from SS15, Subang Jaya (my home place) to Wangsa Maju LRT station (Kelana Jaya Line) & return (2 train rides=US$1.09) on Sunday Feb 16 2020 (08.30>12.30) - a very interesting & educational visit - my last visit to Royal Selangor / Pewter Factory was 35 years ago " 


Total cost incurred (train rides): Rm2.30 x 2 return = Rm4.60 (US$1.09) 

Subang Jaya > Wangsa Maju - 35km


1) Rapid KL LRT train rides ie Subang Jaya > Wangsa Maju returns (1 hour - Rm2.30 one way, senior) 


2) 1.5km of walking from Wangsa Maju LRT station to Royal Selangor Visitor Center, Setapak Jaya along Jalan 2/27A passing rows of residential apartments/ link houses / shophouses, Aeon / Alpha Angle Shopping mall, Rampai Business Park & NSK Wholesaler …


3) Arrival at the Royal Selangor Visitor Center / Pewter Factory, Setapak Jaya, Kuala Lumpur - free admission including a factory tour


4) The Giant Tankard (world largest, made in 1985 to commemorate its centenary, holds 2,796 liters of beer) & Main Arch, Royal Selangor Visitor Center / Pewter Factory, Setapak Jaya, Kuala Lumpur


5) Giant 1885 Signage (135 of history), Royal Selangor Visitor Center / Pewter Factory, Setapak Jaya, Kuala Lumpur


6) Museum Area - Origin of Royal Selangor / Pewter Factory & the Founder, Mr Yong Koon - the success story of a Chinese migrant from Shantou, Southern China in the 18th century ! A great man indeed ! 


7) Museum Area - Tin mining, Pewter & Kuala Lumpur in 19th & 20th Century - tin mining started in Malaysia in 1820s in Perak & in 1824 in Selangor; the development of mining industries in Malaysia attracted many Chinese immigrants who came in 18th & 19th centuries to work & develop the mine fields.

12) Touchmarks of Royal Selangor during the various earlier years of production; from 2004 till now, the company is using a touchmark bearing the name of Royal Selangor !

14) The Malayan Pewter "antique" pewterwares made by the Founder & brothers of the Yong family in the 1880s; mainly used for ceremonial / religious / household purposes ! Old is Gold !
