Day 11 Sunday Nov 24 2024 (Day 2 - Puducherry, Union Territory) - it is a Sunday, a beautiful day for our outing, devoted our day & evening visit to Goubert Market, The Promenade, White Town, Baker's Street, Bharathi Park & downtown Puducherry to get a better feel of this French colonial city ! Pondicherry or Puducherry or Pondi, we are happy to be here ! For traveller like me passionate about travelling, there are many beautiful reasons to be happy here !
1) Early morning walk in downtown Puducherry prior to our breakfast in the hotel.
2) Small Eat - my early morning breakfast ie dosa + tea in a food stall nearby our hotel
3) Goubert Market, 131, Big Market, Puducherry, Union Territory - oldest market in Puducherry, very busy in the morning, different sections selling fish, fresh fruit & vegetable, meat, groceries, dried goods etc; bought our fresh produce (red & white carrots, cucumber, small bitter gourd, lime, onions, guava & bananas) from this market for our dinner preparation.
4) Hotel breakfast (complimentary)
5) Morning walk towards the Botanical Garden, Orleanpet, Puducherry.
6) Anna Statute, Puducherry, Union Territory
7) Botanical Garden, Puducherry, Union Territory - built by French colonists on 22 acres with themed plots, an aquarium & train rides, gate closed, currently under renovation !
8) Walkabout near Ambedkar Nagar, Orleanpet area, Puducherry.
9) Providence Mall, Cuddalore Road, Ambed Nagar, Orleanpet, Puducherry, Union Territory - a small shopping mall near Puducherry Main Bus Stand.
10) Puducherry Bus Main Station, Orleanpet, Puducherry, Union Territory - familiarisation visit to inquire our bus ride from Puducherry > Mahabalipuram departing day after tomorrow.
11) A local morning market in Orleanpet, Puducherry, Union Territory
12) A Hindu Temple, Orleans, Puducherry, Union Territory
13) The Sacred Heart Basilica of Jesus, South Boulevard, Puducherry, Union Territory - an oriental specimen of Gothic Revival architecture, contains rare stained glass panels depicting events from the life of Christ & Saints of the Catholic Church.
14) A taste of Kulfi ice cream (Rs35 = Rm1.40) in front of Puducherry Railway station.

16) Walkabout in Baker Street, Puducherry, Union Territory - bought 2 leather belt @Rs150 = Rm8.10 from a roadside stall in a Sunday weekend open-air bazaar market
17) Bought chicken fillets (Rs140 = Rm7.50) & 8 eggs (Rs48 = Rm2.60) for our dinner cooking this evening in a butcher stall nearby our hotel.
18) Goodies bought for this evening eating ! Munching time in our hotel room !
19) Cottage Since 1949, Puducherry, Union Territory - a famous cottage industry with a showroom selling incense, candles, body care & gift items to tourists.
20) The Cathedral of Our Lady Immaculate Conception (1791), Puducherry, Union Territory - the cathedral mother church for the Roman Catholic archdiocese of Pondicherry & Cuddalore, the church is also known as Samba Kovil.
21) Governor of the Puducherry's Residence, St Martin Street, White Town, Puducherry, Union Territory
22) Puducherry Museum, near Rock Beach, White Town, Puducherry, Union Territory - an art & history museum, especially noted for its collection of fine lost wax bronzes from the period of the Chola Empire. The museum's collection includes 81 Chola's bronze sculptures, ranking as one of the largest collections of Chola bronzes; external visit only as the timing of our visit near closing time (18.00).
23) Bharathi Park, Ru Saint Gilles Street, White Town, Puducherry, Union Territory - close to the Promenade, a landscape park featuring a Greco-Roman arch structure, flowers & garden, a play area, the place has nice pictures of various animals in exquisite granite pillars.
