Day 3 Sunday Nov 17 2024 (Day 2 - Colombo, Sri Lanka) - a beautiful sunny Sunday, focusing my visit to Town Hall, Vihara Maha Devi Park, Galle Face Green & the surrounding, One Galle Face Mall, Pettah Market & Gangaramaya Temple; in the evening, visited the Galle Face Green Promenade by Night, a long & challenging Sunday !
1) Bus ride from our hotel to Colombo Town Hall, Sri Lanka.
2) Colombo Town Hall, Sri Lanka - the HQ of the Colombo Municipal Council & the office of the mayor of Colombo, built in front of the Vihara Mahadevi Park.
3) Vihara Maha Devi Park, Colombo, Sri Lanka - a public park located in Cinnamon Gardens, located in front of the colonial-era Town Hall in Sri Lanka, it was built by the British colonial administration & is the oldest & largest park of Colombo.
4) Lotus Tower, Colombo, Sri Lanka - a symbolic landmark in the city of Colombo, 350m high, the tallest tower in South Asia.
5) Bus ride from Town Hall to Chatham Commercial District area, Colombo City.
6) Colombo Fort Old Lighthouse & Clock Tower, Colombo, Sri Lanka - this clock tower was a lighthouse in Colombo, the lighthouse is no longer operational but the tower remains & functions as a clock tower, it is located at the junction of Chatham Street & Janadhipathi Mawatha in Colombo fort.
7) The Bank of Ceylon HQ, Colombo, Sri Lanka - state owned, a major commercial bank in Sri Lanka.
8) The Kingsbury Hotel, Janadhipathi, Mawatha, Colombo, Sri Lanka - an iconic & luxury hotel in the old commercial district / Colombo Port area.
9) Port City Colombo, Port City Promenade & Iconic Roundabout along the Galle Face Centre Road, Colombo, Sri Lanka
10) Old Parliament Building (1930), Colombo, Sri Lanka - house the Presidential Secretariat of Sri Lanka, located in the Colombo fort area facing the sea, close proximity to the President's House & adjacent to the General Treasury Building.
11) Lotus Tower by the Beira Lake, Colombo, Sri Lanka - an iconic & symbolic landmark in the city of Colombo, 350m tall, the tallest tower in South Asia.
12) Port City Promenade, Colombo, Sri Lanka - a multi-services special economic zone on a reclaimed land adjacent to the Galle Face Green.
13) Shangri La Hotel, Colombo, Sri Lanka - a premier hotel in Colombo city, opened on Nov 2017, located on the Galle Face Promenade overlooking the Indian Ocean, surrounded by high rise end shopping & dining, a 6 minute walk from Galle Face Green Urban Park & 2 km from Beira Lake, owner of the adjacent One Galle Face Mall.
14) One Galle Face Mall, Colombo, Sri Lanka - Colombo's largest integrated development with mall, office, hotel & residences, visited the mall 3-4 times, nice shopping mall, enjoyed window shopping & eating (lunch), bought fresh produce from a basement supermarket; French loaf & pastries from a bakery outlet here.
15) Galle Face Green, Colombo, Sri Lanka - a 5ha ocean-side urban historic park which stretches for 500m along the coast facing the Indian Ocean in the heart of Colombo, the financial & business capital of Sri Lanka.
16) Sri Lankan's national flag pole standing tall & flying high in Galle Face Green !
17) Galle Face Sea, Galle Face Beach, Galle Face Park, Galle Face Green & one more ie the One Galle Face Mall - a 5 in 1 fascinating visit to the scenic coastline along the Galle Face Centre Road of Colombo will no doubt make your day cheerful & happy - Galle becomes a familiar word for locals & foreign tourists, a must see & visit when in Colombo, Sri Lanka ! The combination of blue sky, deep blue sea, green field & white clouds that were enough to brighten up my visit to this part of the world in high spirit ! So just enjoy every moment when you are in a place carrying a word "Face" in multiple times sending a message to the world the beauty of this coastal city of Colombo in Sri Lanka island located on the southern tip of India ! I am happy to be here on my 2nd visit to Colombo, my last visit was in Jan 2013 (11 years ago, how time flies) !
18) Skyscrapers, High-rise building & residences, premier hotels dominate the skyline of the coastal city of Colombo facing the Indian Ocean.
19) ITC Ratnadipa Hotel, Galle Face Centre Road, Colombo, Sri Lanka - a 5 star hotel, nestled between the Indian Ocean & Beira Lake, dominate the city's skyline in Galle Face Green.
20) One Galle Face Mall (internal visit), Colombo, Sri Lanka - a premier shopping mall in Colombo, owned by Shangri la, bought fresh vegetables, the best French loaf & bread / pastry from a bakery outlet in the mall !
21) After the Galle Face Green visit, we took a bus & visited the Pettah Market, opposite the Fort Railway Station
22) Pettah Market, Colombo, Sri Lanka - a bustling local market offering an incredible varieties of items from clothes, kitchen wares, footwear, jewellery, groceries, fresh fruit etc, an exciting place to visit.

23) Dutch Museum, Prince Street, Colombo, Sri Lanka - a museum covers the history of the Dutch colonial rule in Sri Lanka, the two storied building was constructed during the Dutch occupation of Colombo (1656 > 1796), a former residence of the Governor of Dutch Ceylon, Thomas van Rhee (1634 > 1701), the museum was established in 1982.

26) Colombo Lotus Tower, Colombo, Sri Lanka - admission fee to Observation Deck US$20 for foreigners, an iconic landmark in Colombo, 351m high (1153ft)
27) Courtyard City Centre & Courtyard by Marriot, Colombo, Sri Lanka - an elite lifestyle shopping mall & a 5 star Marriot hotel.
28) Gangaramaya Temple, Sri Jinarathana Rd Colombo, Sri Lanka - one of the most important temples in Colombo, a mix of modern architecture & cultural essence, located on the Beira Lake, completed in the late 19th century, admission fee 400LKR = Rs120 = Rm6.50

30) Bus ride from the Courtyard by Marriot back to our hotel after an interesting Buddhist temple visit.
31) Evening Bus ride from our hotel to Fort Railway Station & another bus ride to One Galle Face Mall, Colombo, Sri Lanka - started to drizzle & heavy rain after we boarded the bus ! But we were prepared to brave the rain in order to show up & see the Galle Face Green Promenade by Night ! This wish was fulfilled as soon as our bus inched towards the seafront area !
32) Galle Face Green Promenade by Night - despite a drizzling & raining cats & dogs, we managed to catch a glimpse of this seafront promenade by night, just to satisfy our curiosity as there is a marked difference in feeling & atmosphere on the ground when viewed during the day & night !
