Shree Jagannatha Temple By Night |
Day 19 Monday Dec 2 2024 (Puri, Odisha) Part 1 - my 2nd day in Puri, an exciting day for me & my travel buddy, focusing my visit to the famous Shree Jagannatha Temple & an outstation bus trip to Konark Sum Complex, an UNESCO World Heritage site ! Next was my solo visit to Puri Beach in the late afternoon (16.00) which coincided with an India Navy rehearsal involving participation of warships, fighter jets, helicopters, marine commandos & paratroopers etc. In the evening, I made a solo visit along the Grand Road, seeing Puri by night was the most memorable one in this Southern India trip !
1) Chanduka Palace Hotel, Puri - located 300m from the Shree Jagannatha Temple.
2) After a good night rest, the start of my early morning walk from our hotel > Shree Jagannatha Temple, Puri, it was drizzling at the time of my morning visit !
3) Continuing my morning stroll towards Gadanti Chowk area (next to Shree Jagannatha Temple), Puri
4) Shree Jagannatha Temple (Front), Puri, Odisha - one of the oldest temples still in use, built by Annatavarman of the Chodaganga dynasty in the 10th century, the deities within the shrine are believed to be older & are associated with the great ruler of Satya-yuga, King Indrayumma, nephew of Lord Ram. I am great to be in Puri & have the golden opportunity to admire this magnificent temple monument (front & rear); unfortunately as a non-Hindu, I was not allowed to enter this holy temple complex - so near yet so far but overtly happy with this ancient temple external visit !
5) Shree Jagannatha Temple (Rear), Puri
6) Shree Jagannatha Temple by Night - my solo evening walk after the dinner, the night is young so old KM, take your sweet time to admire this ancient temple monument which had a glorious past till today !
7) Downtown Puri by Night along the Grant Road, Puri - my solo evening walk after a home cooked own prepared vegetable meal in the hotel; I really enjoyed every moment of my time seeing the busy & bustling Puri by night. Puri, Puri, Jagannath Puri, how not to fall in love with you, one of the holiest pilgrimage places in India ! What a starry starry night when all the commercial shop lots lighted up, glittering & dazzling from far making the entire place so cheerful, high spirit, lively & bubbly to feel, watch & admire ! Given my short 2 nights stay in Puri, I was at the right time (time is precious as time & tide wait for no man) at the right place (as busy as the Orchard Road of Singapore although both cities have a very much different city character), a wonderful night indeed. If you are a mid-night cowboy & enjoy night shopping & eating, this is the right place for you ! Sleep well, KM, you had done well so far in this Southern India trip ! When in Rome do as the Romans do ! Join the madding crowd for an evening walk in downtown Puri, you will have no regret !
