Day 5, Thursday Jan 22 2026 (Can Tho & Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam) - my 1 night stay in Can Tho is basically to take a boat ride to visit the Floating Markets & local wet markets; after the visit, we took a MPV van ride (Rm31) from our hotel to Ho Chi Minh City (approx 169km) for a 4 nights stay, a trip long overdue as my last visit to Ho Chi Minh City was in Jan 2014 !
Travel itinerary: Can Tho > Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam (approx. 157km)
Can Tho is the 4th largest city in Vietnam & the largest city along the Mekong Delta region in Vietnam, it is noted for its floating markets, Banh trang-making (steamed rice paper) village & picturesque canals, it has a population of 4.2 million & is located on the south bank of the Hau River, a distributary of the Mekong River, Can Tho is 169km from Ho Chi Minh City.
1) Light refreshment in FIT Hotel's café (free flow of coffee & tea), Can To, Vietnam
2) Grab car ride from FIT Hotel, Can Tho to Cho An Binh Market to visit Cai Rang Floating Markets (approx 7km), dropped off at a jetty near Cho An Binh Market (a short walk of 300m)
3) Walkabout along the riverfront overseeing the Hau River, a distributary of the Tonle Sap & Mekong River, the river starts in Phnom Penh, Cambodia & flows south, crossing the border into Vietnam near Chau Doc.
4) Cho An Binh (Market), Can Tho, Vietnam - a local wet market selling fresh produce, fruit & vegetables, fish, meat & clothing / household wares etc. Also the boarding place for our boat ride to The Floating Market.
5) Early lunch in a noodle stall next to Cho An Binh Market, Can Tho, Vietnam - savoured a bowl of pork noodle soup + iced coffee (45K VND = Rm7) prior our boat ride to The Floating Markets.
6) Cai Rang Floating Market, Can Tho, Vietnam - a wholesale floating market specialising in the trade of fruit & vegetables on the Hau River & is a unique tourist attraction, with a history dating back to the early 20th century, the market emerged as a crucial trading hub, before the development of roads & bridges, the waterways of the delta region were the primary means of trade & transport leading to the development of floating markets where channels converged; both of us hired a boat & bought a ticket (150K = Rm24 for 2 people) from a local council tourism booth in front of the Cho An Binh, for a private boat ride to the Floating Markets (30 minutes).
7) Walkabout from Cho An Binh Market > Cho Cai Rang Market (over a bridge approx 1 km) our final visit in Can Tho before taking a Gab car back to our hotel for check-out.
8) MPV van pick up from our hotel to Meko limousine company for a connecting MPV van ride to Ho Chi Minh City (ticket Rm31 online booking) at around 12 noon (seamless services provided by most private limousine & bus companies in Vietnam cities ie from hotel pick to drop off at the arriving city or the transport company's office / depot.)
9) A 10 minutes stopover for a washroom visit highway at a minimart, off the expressway from Can Tho > HCM City.
10) Arriving in Meko transport office / depot in Ho Chin Minh City, took a Grab car ride (55K VND = Rm11) from Meko office to Spring House Hotel for hotel check-in.
11) Hotel Accommodation: my 4 nights stay in Spring House Hotel, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, room tariff Rm109 twin sharing, 350m to Ben Thanh Metro station.
