Day 23 Jan 2 2024 (Goa > Hampi) 

Day 1 (Hampi) - Train ride & countryside scenery from Madgaon, Goa > Hospet Junction, Hampi (07.15 > 14.45, 9hr 30mins) by VSG SHM Exp, Class 3A Rp620 = Rm36, total distance of 352km, pre-booked an auto-rickshaw departing from our Hampi hotel at 05.00 > Madgaon, Goa (Rp1,500 = Rm88, 36km) 

Margao, Goa > Hospet, Hampi (352km)

Day 1 (Hampi) - Auto-rickshaw pick up (Rp200 = Rm11.60) arranged by our hotel from Hospet Junction > Happy Homestay, New Hampi.


Day 1 (Hampi) Hotel Accommodation: my 2 nights stay in Happy Homestay Rp1,210 = Rm70 (twin sharing) per room night


Day 1 (Hampi) Auto-rickshaw ride from hotel > Kamalapur town to rent a bike from a local bike rental company recommended by our hotel, Rp950 + petrol = Rm55 per day; bought fresh vegetables & eggs from a local fresh produce stall for our dinner cooking tonight ! 


Day 24 Jan 3 2024 - the start of my 1st full day day bike visits to major touristy places in Hampi, Karnataka ie Talarigatta Gate, Vittala Temple & Stone Chariot, Archaeological Museum, Lotus Mahal etc. 

Day 2 (Hampi)  - after having a self cooked noodle breakfast in our hotel & using the rental bike, both of us made our 1st visit to Vijaya Vittala Temple & Stone Chariot (UNESCO) in Hampi passing the Talarigatta Gate.  


Day 2 (Hampi) - Admission ticket to Vittala Temple UNESCO) is Rp600 = Rm34.80) for a single day ticket which also cover entries to Lotus Mahal (UNESCO) & Archaeological  Museum (UNESCO), these 3 sites are all in different locations !  


Day 2 (Hampi) - Vittala Temple / Stone Chariot (UNESCO) is approx 900m from the ticketing office so instead of taking a  buggy ride (10Rp = Rm0.60), both of us decided to take a slow walk to the main temple; along the way, we made a brief stopover & visited a few temple ruins ie Gejjala Mandapa, Kuduregombe Mandapa & Pushkarni.

Day 2 (Hampi) - visit to Royal Enclosure, Hampi, Karnataka - historic site with remnants of the royal complex where the king of the Vijayanagara empire lived




Day 2 (Hampi) - bought fresh chicken meat & eggs from a local butcher stall in Kamalapur town - took us awhile to locate chicken meat butcher shops in Hampi town & suburbs as I believe this village town of Hampi has a large vegetarian society ! Tonight I had the opportunity to cook a KM-style stir fried chicken meat cum vegetable soup in our hotel room ! This free range chicken meat was very tender & tasty to eat - the best chicken meat I had ever tasted in India ! 



Day 3 Jan 3 2024 - continued our "treasure hunt" to visit major ancient temples ruins & touristy places in Hampi ! Returned the bike to the rental bike company at around 16.30 thus completed our 2 days exciting bike visits in Hampi ! 

Day 3 (Hampi) - visit to  Discourse Hall, Hampi, Karnataka - took a buggy ride from the Ticketing Office to Discourse Hall, Vittala Temple (UNESCO)

Day 3 (Hampi) - Lunch break at a village food stall near the banks of the Tungabhadra River, Hampi, both of us enjoyed the food & hot tea very much, met a local tourist family on the same table while having our lunch ! 


Day 3 (Hampi) - Matanga Hill, Hampi, Karnataka - peak with hiking trails leading to a popular lookout for watching sunrise & sunsets. 


Day 3 (Hampi) - Achyutaraya Bazaar, Hampi, Karnataka


Day 3 (Hampi) - Sugriva's Cave, Hampi, Karnataka - spotted the Sugriva's Cave's landmark sign during our walking trail but somehow both of us had difficulties locating the cave's entrance, after inquiring from 2 to 3 locals, we managed to got the bearing right after befriended a local guy dressed in a Hindu religious costume leading us to the cave ! 


Day 3 (Hampi) Sasivekalu Ganesa, Hampi, Karnataka - this temple is an open pavilion with a statute of the Hindu god Ganesha carved from a single rock. 




Day 3 (Hampi) - Krishna Temple, Hampi, Karnataka - a 16th century temple ruins with elaborately carved stone pillars & towers & a sacred water tank, please see the next Post (under Group of Monuments at Hampi) covering various photos taken on this famous temple !

Day 3 (Hampi) - Lakshmi Narasimha, Hampi, Karnataka - the largest statute in Hampi, Narasimha is sitting on the coil of a giant seven-headed snake called Sesha taht form the hood above his head.
