Bengaluru Palace, Karnataka, India |
Day 27 Jan 6 2024 (Bengalore) - my 2nd day in Bangalore, focused my visit to Commercial Street & Bengaluru Palace - a must see (by Metro & auto rickshaws)
1) A local Metro train ride near our hotel (330m) > Cubbon Park Metro station > auto-rickshaw to Commercial Street, Bangalore
2) Commercial Street & the surrounding, Bengaluru, Karnataka - one of the oldest & busiest shopping areas of the city, the street is famous for its trade in clothes, footwear, jewellery, electronics & food joints, open business starts around 11.00, busiest & charming in the evening when rows of hanging lighting is lighted up ! No regret visiting this bustling street of Bengaluru having the shopping atmosphere similar to that of the "Orchard Road" of Singapore !
3) Jamia Masjid located near the City Market, the most impressive mosque in Bangalore, designed by Rayyaz Asifudin of Hyderabad, India, it was built in 1940, next to the mosque is a Hindu temple - a harmonious fit !
4) St Paul's Church, Bengaluru, Karnataka - built in 1840, located in the corner of Old Poor House Road & Bowring Hospital Road, next to the Bowring & Lady Curzon Hospital,
5) Bengaluru Palace, Karnataka - admission fee Rs480 = Rm27.80, the private residence of the royal Wodeyar family, photography inside the palace museum prohibited so I had to rely on audio-visual device to gain a better understanding of the historic & glorious past of the maharaja ruling family of this grand palace, a 19th century royal palace (resemble Windsor Castle, a mixture of Tudor & Scottish Gothic architecture) in an area that was owned by Rev John Garett, the 1st principal of the Central High Court in Bangalore, now famous as Central College, the construction of this palace is attributed to him, due to the Sunday weekend, the palace was filled with visitors & tourists !
Pictures of Bengaluru Palace contributed by my travel buddy, KF Wong.
After the palace visit, both of us took a auto-rickshaw to Cubon Park followed by a Metro train ride to Majestic Metro station, 300m from our hotel & had a light lunch nearby.
