Day 32 Jan 11 2024 (City No 12 - Ooty, Tamil Nadu) - as both of us were pleased with the outcome of the Ooty Day Tour Package No 1 visit recommended by the Tourist Guides Information Centre, we decided to sign up another day tour package today covering the various interesting touristy places in Pykara & Mudumalai area. It may not be cost effective if both of us hire our own transport to visit these outlying places thus the two day attractive tour packages we signed up make life easier for us in our 3 nights stay in Ooty (penny wise pound foolish if we were to venture on our own !)
Ooty Package Tour No 2 - Day Tour Price Rp350 + Tips Rp50 = Rp400 = Rm23.20 (10.00 > 20.00)
1) Kamarajar Dam - a brief stopover, took a few pictures of the dam from the outside of a locked gate !
2) Tree Park View Point 8th Mile - free admission, pine forest, Eucalyptus trees, horse riding, family outing & picnicking etc.
3) Wenlock Downs Nature Trail 9th Mile Shooting Point - admission fee Rs30 = Rm1.80, a small hill offering 360 degrees view of Ooty hillside, a gentle climb walk, pine trees, chill breeze in the morning & evening, many of the Hindustani movies were shot here.
4) Pykara Dam, Ooty, Tamil Nadu - built on Pykara River amidst dense forest offering breathtaking scenery, Pykara is the largest river in Nilgris district. a brief stopover for viewing from the bus's windows.
5) Pykara Boat House, Ooty, Tamil Nadu - free admission, scenic lake, boat hire (8 seater, 20 mins) Rp1,100 = Rm63.80 & 10 seater 20mins Rp1,300 = Rm75.40.
Lunch break in a local restaurant - ordered from the food menu - 1 vegetable biryani Rp100 + 1 chicken masala (half) Rp80 + 1 plain rice Rp60 = Rp240 =Rm13.90 for 2 persons.

6) Mudumalai National Park - a national park in the Nilgiri Mountains in Tamil Nau in southern India, covers 321sq km at an elevation range of 850 > 1,250m in the Nilgiri District & shares boundaries with states of Karnataka & Kerala, a part of this area has been protected since 1940. Spotted a few animals along the way ie elephants, deer & peacocks etc
Mudumalai Wildlife Sanctuary Jungle Ride - 1.5hr drive, Rp350 = Rm20.30 per pax, an exciting, thrilling, bumpy, rock & roll evening drive through undulating lands with pot holes etc. Scenic landscape near the temple mountain area ! Upon our return to the base, our group had no luck in spotting any animals so a bit of disappointment; in travelling, you win some & you lose some !
Upon our return from our Day Tour Package No 2 to Ooty Town (near the central bus stand), both of us bought over 1/2 kilo (Rp150 = Rm9) of fresh chicken meat (my preferred choice although there is a fish & beef stall in business) from a nearby stall & I stir-fried the meat with condiments & spices (using a mini rice cooker) as our evening dinner to be eaten in the comfort of our hotel room ! Yummy yummy taste, just to celebrate that both of us had a successful visit for our 3 nights stay in Ooty hill station realising once upon a time, Ooty was a summer retreat for British during the colonial days ......
