Indonesia (Post Covid-19 Overseas Visit No 4 - My 16 days in Surabaya, Semarang, Yogyakarta, Malang, Batu & Probolinggo) Day 5 May 17 2023 Semarang, Java Part 1

Day 5 Wednesday May 16 2023 Semarang, Central Java - my 2nd day in Semarang, focusing my visit to the Historic Building Lawang Sewu, Sam Poo Kong Complex, Kampoeng Pelangi, Kota Lama (Old) Semarang, using Grab to arrive at each of these destinations. 

1) My early breakfast in suburban Semarang, Central Java ie Soto Ayam chicken porridge (14,000Rp= Rm4.30) in Pak Man Restaurant, by the roadside within walking distance from Votel Krakotoa, Semarang, Central Java.

2) Jalan Jalan (Walkabout) in suburban Semarang town  nearby my hotel during the early morning. 


4) Local Pasar (Food Market), suburban Semarang town, Java.


5) My Babi Special Pork Food shop in suburban Semarang town, Java - selling pork meat bone-in & boneless cuts, pork offal, fried pork meat & meat balls, roasted pork, pork noodle soup etc. 


6) Moaci Gemini, Kota Semarang, Java - bought 3 packs of original & sesame kueh moaci or mochi, a Japanese rice cake made of mochigome (74,000Rp = Rm22.80) as a quick snack for both of us to munch during the day ! I really enjoy eating these Indonesian made moaci, taste as good as those made in my home country, Malaysia !

9) Taman Pandanaran, Kota Semarang, Java - rested our feet here for an hour in this garden & in the meantime helped ourselves & sampled our 1st bite of mochi (Japanese rice cakes) bought from a nearby pastry shop.

10) Tugu Muda, Kota Semarang, Java - an iconic landmark in downtown Semarang ! 


11) Museum Perjuangan Mandala Bhakti, Kota Semarang, Java


12) Historic Building Lawang Sewu, Kota Semarang, Central Java - opened in 1907, the Javanese word "Lawang Sewu" is a nickname for the building which means "a thousand doors" !  Lawang Sewu was a former office building & the head office of the Dutch East Indies Railway Co & is owned by the national railway company Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI), entrance fee 30,000Rp (Rm9.20)


13) Exhibits of posters & pictures of railway stations in major cities in Indonesia, scenic countryside by KAI trains & the beauty of Ambrawa (a small town located in the highlands of Central Java) in Lawang Sewu Museum, Semarang, Central Java. As I enjoy taking trains in Indonesia, the train stations I had used for my train journeys thus far (including this Java trip) were Jakarta Gambier train station, Bandung, Bogor, Surabaya, Semarang, Yogyakarta, Malang & Probolinggo !
