Day 5 Wednesday May 17 2023 Semarang, Java Part 2 continued - my 2nd day in Semarang, focusing my visit to the Historic Building Lawang Sewu, Sam Poo Kong Complex, Kampoeng Pelangi, Kota Lama (Old) Semarang; as these touristy places are located in suburban Semarang, both of us relied on using Grab to take us to these destinations !
1) Sam Poo Kong Complex, Semarang, Java - also known as Gedung Batu Temple, the oldest Chinese temple (dating back to 1400 > 1416) in Semarang, Central Java, originally established by the Chinese Muslim explorer Zheng He (Admiral Cheng Ho & also known as Sanbao), it is now shared by Indonesians of multiple religious denominations ie Muslims, Buddhists & ethnicities including Chinese & Javanese; the Sam Poo Kong complex includes 5 temples in a mixed Chinese & Javanese architectural style, the temples are Sam Poo Kong (the oldest), Tho Tee Kong, Kyai Juru Mudi Temple, Kyai Jangkar Temple & Kyai Cundrik Bumi Temple, an additional worship site, Mbah Kyai Tumpeng is in the complex, the buildings are spread over 3.2 hectares (7.9 acres).

2) Kampoeng Pelangi, Semarang, Central Java - one of Indonesian's rainbow villages, over 200 houses in this village are painted in rainbow stripes; in Malang on Day 12, I have the opportunities to visit 3 more rainbow villages ie Kampung Biru, Kampung Tridi & Kampung Warna Warni of Jodipan !
