My 21 days - Overland Border Crossing Train Rides from Malaysia > Thailand > Laos > China (Feb 10 > March 2 2025) Bangkok, Thailand - Feb 11 2025 (Day 2)

Tuesday Feb 11 2022 (Day 2 - Bangkok, Thailand) - my 1st day in Bangkok after an overnight train ride from Hatyai, spent the entire day & evening visiting a number of tourist attractions in downtown Bangkok (mainly by Sky trains, MRT & boat rides) ie Icon Siam, Siam Paragon, Benchakitti Park, Queen Sirikit Convention Centre & Asiatique The Riverfront.  

Ground Transport & Food: 764bht (Rm101 = US$22)

  1. Thai Grab: 400bht @100bht (cost sharing of 4) 
  2. Sky Trains & MRT: 47bht + 40bht + 43bht + 47bht + 80bht + 22bht + 47bht + 32bht = 358bht
  3. Boat Rides: 8bht + 8bht
  4. Food: 80bht + 100bht + 50bht + 60bht
1) Overnight Thai train departing Hatyai 17.45 arriving in Grand Bang Sue Station, Bangkok (08.10)


2) Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Terminal (Bang Sue Grand  Station), Bangkok - to exit, just followed the direction sign .....  


3) Cityscape as viewed from a moving e-hailing Grab towards our hotel in Phahonyothin Road, Chatuchak, Bangkok.  


4) e-hailed a Thai Grab (400bht) from Grand Bang Sue Station > Le Bonheur Postel, Chaktuchak, temporary stored our luggage in the hotel due to early arrival & after a short rest, our group took a MRT from Saphan Kwai Station to downtown Bangkok for sightseeing; room tariff Rm117 per night, twin sharing. 


5) Saphan Khwai MRT Station - 100m walk from Le Bonheur Poshtel, took a MRT to visit the Chao Phraya River & the surrounding in downtown Bangkok. 


6) Arriving in  Saphan Taksin Train Station & a short walk to the river pier 


7) Icon Siam, Bangkok - took a shuttle boat ride (8bht) from Saphan Taksin pier > Icon Siam pier, spent 2 hours of time in this mega shopping mall & had our lunch in Icon Siam Floating Market ! 




8) Lunch & light refreshment in Icon Siam - savoured a plate of roasted pork (160bht = Rm21, sharing for 2) & Pad Thai fried noodle @100bht (Rm13) 


9) Exiting Icon Siam by a shuttle boat ride > Saphan Taksin Pier 


10) Saphan Taksin > Siam Paragon - took a Sky train > Siam Paragon Mall. 


11) Siam Paragon, Bangkok - a premier & largest shopping mall along with Icon Siam, CentralWorld & Central WestGate in Thailand, my favourite shopping mall in Bangkok !  


12) Exiting Siam Paragon Mall & took a Skytrain back to our hotel for a rest. 



13) Light Refreshment (ice dessert 50bht) in Siam Paragon Food Court prior to our exit !

15) Skytrain ride from Saphan Khwai Station > Queen Sirikit Convention Center 


16) Queen Sirikit Convention Centre / ThaiBev Quarter



17) Benchakitti Park - a public park located in the Khlong Toei District of Bangkok, since its opening in 1992, Benchakitti Park has become a popular destination for outdoor recreation & exercise in Bangkok. 


18) Skytrain ride from Saphan Khwai Station (near our hotel) > Saphan Taksin Station to visit Asiatique The Riverfront (by free shuttle boat)  


19) Asiatique The Riverfront - a large open air mall in Bangkok, occupies the former docks of the East Asiatic Company & faces the Chao Phraya River & Charoen Kung Road, the complex opened in 2012. My 4th visit ! 


20) Exiting the Asiatique Waterfront after an almost 45 minutes of walkabout (my 4th visit) in this popular touristy place & we took the next available shuttle boat back to Saphan Taksin Pier for a MRT train ride back to our hotel. 


21) Our group's dinner in a local food stall nearby our hotel in downtown Bangkok, both my travel buddy, KF Wong & myself savoured a plate of grilled pork + rice @ 60bht (Rm7.80) per pax.
