My 21 days Overland Border Crossing Train Rides from Malaysia > Thailand > Laos > China (Feb 10 > March 2 2025) - Pu'er China Feb 25 2025 (Day 17 - Sun River Forest Park) Part 1

Wednesday Feb 27 2025 (Pu'er, Yunnan) - one of my travel buddies suggested to visit Sun River Forest Park this morning so we just e-hailed a DiDi cab & showed up, if you enjoy nature, this is a great place for you to take a Park tour (guided 2 hr) following the forest walking trail & have the opportunity to avail yourself to a number of close-ups / encounters with endangered animals ie white rhinoceros, red panda & small animals etc.

Ground Transport

  1. Nanling Inn, Chaoma Ancient City > Sun River Forest Park, Pu'er National Park > Nanling Inn (return) - CNY73 + CNY64 = CNY137 @ CNY34 = Rm21 per pax (US$4.60, cost sharing of 4) 
  2. Entrance fee: FOC for Seniors above 70+ 
  3. Electric buggy ride: CNY50 (Rm30) per pax
  4. Food:CNY10 per pax

3) Electric battery vehicle ride near Front Entrance > Starting Point of our Park tour (guided) to the interior of the Sun River Forest Park, Pu'er. 


3) Park tour to Sun River Forest Park for our sightseeing (2 hours) - the starting point.

10) Macaque Paradise - The Marques also known as Yellow Monkey are national 2nd class protected animal mainly found in subtropical forests, small in size, with thin faces & their body color is mostly grey-yellow or grey brown, they are quick in action, primarily feed on leaves, shoots, wild vegetables, birds, eggs, earthworms, ants & various insects, the vast subtropical forest provides rich food resources & a good living environment for the macaques, a paradis for them !   


11) Tree Fern Trail, Sun River Forest Park, Pu'er, Yunnan - tree ferns mainly grow in the forest or river, valley on both sides of the wet place, tree ferns were once the most abundant plants on earth, about 180 million years ago along with dinosaurs. 



12) Fish Shadow The Stream & Wawa fish (Da Ni) - the Pu'er National Park boasts dense forest, fresh air & clear spring water with a temperature from 10c > 22c & dissolved oxygen levels above 3.5mg/L making the place an ideal habitat for the growth & breeding of giant salamanders, a rare amphibian specie that has survived since the era of dinosaurs & is classified as a national class 11 protected aquatic wildlife. 


13) A swollen gourd is wet - nearby villagers refer to this area as a wetland known as " Jiao Melon Pond " where a large number of Jiao melons used to be cultivated, with the implementation of forest ecology protection, the traditional activities in this area have gradually been ceased, allowing various weeds & wildflowers to flourish in the wetland, while white storks leisurely catch fish in the pond, eagles freely roam the low sky & grey cranes peacefully stroll through the wetland creating a harmonious coexistence between humans & nature.  


14) Oriental White Storks - an endangered specie roaming freely in the wetland.  


15) Red Panda - also known as the lesser panda or the firefox, a member of the family Ailuride which is placed between the beer family & the raccoon family, classified as a national 2nd class protected animal due to its gentle nature & distinctive appearance, well liked by humans which earned the nickname of "nine-knot wolf " ! 


16) Bears Haant - the Asian black bear is a mammal of the Uridae family, also known as moon bear / crescent bear / dog bear or black blind, residing in mountainous forests, mainly active during the day, adept at climbing trees & swimming, bears walk upright with poor vision, but sensitive in smell & hearing, it has a diverse diet & feeds on plant, leaves, teeth, fruit & seeds, sometimes, it also eats insects, bird eggs & small mammals, belong to the 2nd level of national protected animals category. 


17) Butterfly Valley - the Pu'er national Park is home to a variety of rare butterflies with high ornamental value, including the Jinshang butterfly, Yunnan Lima butterfly, Parisian Turnips butterfly, red Horned Colias & Tuba butterfly. Each spring & summer, the exceptional ecological environment of Pu'er National Park attracts numerous butterflies to lay eggs & breed in Butterfly Creek Valley, creating a breathtakingly beautiful scene


18) Hippie Bird Paradise - a total of 222 species of birds have been documented in the Pu'er National Park.

19) Human & Nature Memorial Park - a landmark listing of plants, animals, aquatic mammals now placed under the extinct category hence an urgent need to step up efforts to preserve & protect these living things before disappearance from the earth ! 


20) Return DiDi car ride (CNY64) from Sun River Forest Park > Nanling Inn, Chaoma Ancient City after an 2 hours visit to the park. 


21) My simple noodle lunch (CNY10 = Rm6) in a noodle stall nearby our hotel in Choma Ancient City !
