UXO Lao Visitor Center,
Luang Prabang, Laos
 Mekong Riverside, Luang Prabang, Laos
Phou Si Hill, Luang Prabang

Wednesday Feb 19 2025 (Luang Prabang, Laos) Part 2 - after the Kuan Si Waterfall visit, our tourist van driver dropped us off at UXO Lao Visitor Center followed by a short walk to the Mekong riverside area. In  the evening, together with my travel buddy, KF Wong, both of us made a visit to Phou Si Hill, the best spot for watching sunset !  Before returning to our hotel, we took an evening stroll in Luang Prabang Night Market. A well rewarded day for our group roaming the countryside & downtown royal city of Luang Prabang !

1) UXO Lao Visitor Center, Luang Prabang, Laos - an interesting visit, the center features information about unexploded ordnance, display of real life bombs (defused), UXO stands for Unexploded Ordnance, Laos is the most heavily bombed country per capita in history,  25% of Laos villages are contaminated with UXO, more than 580,000 bombing missions were conducted over Laos & 2 million tonnes of ordnance were dropped on Laos during the 2nd Indochina War between 1964 & 1973, 30% of ordnance failed to detonate ! Our group watched a documentary movie to learn the tragic facts about the Secret War !

2) A short walk from UXO Visitor Center > Mekong riverside area heading towards our hotel in downtown Luang Prabang

3) Mekong Riverside, Luang Prabang, Laos - traditional shophouses & restaurants (enjoy a bottle of cool Luang Prabang beer & traditional Lao food & relax your time especially in the evening watching sunset & tourist boats passing by) lined on the both sides of the main road facing the Mekong River, nearby jetties offer tour boat services for sunset watching & Mekong River cruises !

4) Our group's lunch in a Mekong riverside restaurant in Luang Prabang, Laos - savoured a plate of fried rice with chicken & cashew nuts (50,000 KIP = US2.30)

5) Phou Si Hill, Luang Prabang, Laos - my evening visit, a small hike to the hill top to catch sunset & enjoy the evening walk, admission fee 30,000 KIP (US$1.40).

6) Panoramic view of Luang Prabang Town & Mekong River, sun set watching from the Mt Phusi hilltop, visitors crowded the viewpoint so be patient to inch your way to the hilltop !

7) Buddhist shrines, stupa, deities for worshipping, imprint of Buddha foot, religious sites etc found along the way in Phou Si Hill (a sacred hill).

8) Luang Prabang Night Market - lively evening market for food & crafts, good for a stroll !

9) Dinner in a noodle stall nearby our hotel - savoured a bowl of pork noodle soup (40,000 KIP = US$1.85) & bought 3 pieces of coconut pancake (16,000 KIP x 3) as supper from a food stall in the Night Market.

10) Luang Prabang Night Market - a favourite food haunt in Luang Prabang, crowded especially after 20.00, this place is like the Night Market of Jalan Alor, Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (my home country)

11) Street for Night Market Food, Luang Prabang - my last visit to this old Night Market Food Lane was in Nov 2011 & 2017 ! Still retaining the old flavour & Laos charm ! One of my Klang travel buddies celebrated his birthday in this Night Market Food Lane in 2017, well remembered by me when I stepped into this lane this evening reminiscing my Good Old Days in Luang Prabang !
