Day 9 March 15 2024 Friday (Taipei, Taiwan) - focusing my group's visit to 6 major touristy places in Taipei City using Metro & local buses.
1) Morning breakfast in a nearby eatery stall & Shuanglian Morning Market - braised pork knuckle N$175 (Rm26.25) + misua meat broth NT$60 (Rm9) + carrot cakes / soya bean drink / fried dough NT$75 (Rm11.25) totalled NT$310 = Rm46.50 for 2 sharing.
2) Morning walk nearby my hotel in Mingquan West Road, Taipei City
3) National Taiwan Museum, Xiangyang Road, Zhongzheng District, Taipei, Taiwan - established in 1908, the oldest museum in Taiwan, founded by the colonial government during Taiwan's period of Japanese rule, free admission for seniors 65+, normal adult fare NT$30 (Rm4.50)
4) 228 Peace Memorial Park, Zhongzheng Street, Taipei City - a historic site & municipal park at Ketagalan Boulevard, Zhongzheng Street, built in a traditional style with Japanese garden landscaping & ponds, arched bridges, walking paths & an amphitheater
5) NTU Hospital in Zhongzheng District, Taipei City, opposite the 228 Peace Park.
6) Presidential Office Building & the surrounding, Zhongzheng Street, Taipei - founded in 1919, the work place of the President of Republic of China, Taiwan, designed by architect Uheiji Nagano during the period of Japanese of Taiwan.
7) Metro train ride to Yuanshan station (Exit 2 Kulun St) to visit Confucius Temple
8) Confucius Temple, Datong Street, Taipei City - founded in 1738 by Han immigrants from Fujian, served as a municipal, guild & self defence centre as well as a house of worship, free admission.
9) Group lunch in a vegetarian restaurant in downtown Taipei City - savoured a plate of mixed vegetarian rice NT$75 (Rm11.25) for 2 sharing.
10) Took a public bus to National Revolutionary Martyrs Shrine.
11) National Revolutionary Martyrs Shrine, Belan Road, Zhongshan District, Taipei City - built in 1969, dedicated to the war dead of the Republic of China; every hour, an impressive changing of guard ceremony occurs, famous for its incredible military precision & stillness of the guards before & after the ceremony
12) Yuanshan Metro Station - after the National Revolutionary Martyrs Shrine visit, my wife & myself took a Metro from a nearby Yuanshan station > New Beitou station to visit the Thermal Valley which our group missed visiting yesterday afternoon (closing time 17.00)
13) Thermal Valley, Beitou - a valley located on the foothill of Yangmingshan National Park in Beitou District, Taipei, this makes Thermal Valley one of the sources of acidic sulfur hot spring in the area, locals refer to it as Hell Valley (water at the hot spring recorded a 429c high at the time of my visit).
14) Dinner with my wife in a local restaurant nearby my hotel - savoured a plate of vegetable + carrot soup + tofu + eggs + white rice = NT$175 (Rm26.25) for 2 & an evening stroll back to the hotel.
